Indirect TTL Flash with M6 TTL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I like to use my flash indirect (bounced at the ceiling or a wall) in TTL mode. How can I do it with the new Leice M6 TTL. Is there any flash model around which supports the cameras TTL mode and which has a moveable reflector? Thanks for your ideas. Michael

The Metz 32MZ-3

I use the simple, small SF20 flash unit. When I need to move the flash head around for bounce or whatever, a Nikon SC-17 connection cord retains all dedicated features of the SF20 and allows complete mobility. The cord is a little bulky but does a superb job.

You can also use the Contax TLA 100 cord too. The Pentax TTL cord system also allows you to mount a viewfinder as well.

John is right - the Contax cord is the way to go. Compact, yet full featured. MUCH cheaper, too.

Michael,

I have a Metz 32Z-2 with an SCA 3502 adapter for the M6TTL. The light can do 90 degree upward bounce and 180 degree swivel. It works perfectly with the TTL.

I have to ask the other posters, if you use an SC17 or whatever cable, do you hand-hold the flash? I can’t picture this, I need all my hands just for the M6, how do you hold a flash too? Just curious.

Cheers,

The SC-17 has a tripod thread on the end that plugs into the flashgun. It's very handy and solves the problem of needing three arms or an assistant. If you don't already have a spare tripod, you can buy a really cheap and flimsy one, since quality doesn't matter for this purpose.

SF20, SC17, small bracket, SFILL (due out these days). Cheers.

Oops - did I mention the SLING which accounts for the third hand? ;o)
