Little Kevin injured again :-(

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

According to an interview with YBR on SkySports News, LKD suffered "pain" in his shin during training yesterday. Not sure if this is linked with his previous shin splint injury (or whatever it was). YBR said they'd have to see how he was after training today before deciding on whether to risk him for the Chewsee trip. Bollocks!

Awful Prognosis??

Bad news indeed....

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Is there any chance we can sack the whole f**kin' medical staff at SJP? They continually turn out players returning from injury only for them to get immediately crocked again...Cort, Shearer, Dyer, Robert (by the sound of things), Griffin

Dabs and Given seem to be the only players capable of making any return to form straight after any lay off.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Let's not panic yet. Wouldn't some sort of pain be expected when coming back from injury, in which case it might mean just not overdoing it. Forever the optimist...

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

However, the ever (un)reliable .cock says Dyer's in the squad for tomorrow. Hmmm

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

I agree that NUFC's record with injuries is terrible. However, I have a theory that certain players in the modern game are just not cut out to be professional athletes. Jamie Redknapp, Duncan Ferguson, Marcelino, Michael Bridges are just four off the top of my head, none of whom are wasters, well mebbees Marcy. Could it be that both KD and CC fall into this gang? I hope not.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Sounds like gout. Calling Buff. Calling Bud-Wiser. Calling Dr Bill.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

The thing is, in this case Dyer hasn't been rushed back so I'm not sure we can blame this entirely on NUFC.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Also, it's not on .completely more NUFC than Thou yet...

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Pfshdt! You're feisty today dougs, 3 Weetabix this morning or a liquid lunch started early? :-)

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

LOL. Oh, just a bit cross about the Ticket Office (you were right about them double-charging me to compensate for actually sending the tickets).

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

If it's his 'natural' kicking leg, couldn't it be just stiffness in the lower leg muscles ? (Some hope).

Or, if the rest have been told to lay off the heavy tackles in training, it might be due simply to the fact that nobody told Ipswich we wanted him wrapped in cotton wool, so the few tackles he must have taken on Saturday are just making their presence felt. (Some hope).

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

To be honest, I can't see how 8-10 mins at Ipswich could have made a huge amount of difference, compared with 62 mins at Notlob. It may well just be a reaction, tho YBR did say it might be due to a "step up match" - which he then went on to explain means one played at a faster pace in the EPL. If so, surely it could have been anticipated???

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Except I'd have been happier if he'd felt pain, or at least stiffness, in both ankles.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Boss Bobby Robson confirmed, “Yesterday, he was just having some discomfort again with it. Now whether that is a reaction to step-up football, which the Premiership is as opposed to just training, I don't know so we have to wait and see what it is like today."

“It is right in the middle of the shin bone where the stress fracture occurred and where the muscle tear happened in pre-season. It is nothing serious, nothing drastic, he has just suffered a slight reaction.”

So, if this knee expert is Steadman, who's the shin bone expert?

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Manny Shinwell???

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Call me a cynic, but if Dyer is experiencing pain in the same area where his shin had a lump of bone grafted in and his calf muscle was recently torn - how the f**k does Bobby Robson know "It is nothing serious, nothing drastic, he has just suffered a slight reaction?”

Did he morph into an orthopaedic specialist overnight? Or is this - like continuing to play Laurent Robert when an MRI scan showed quite clearly he had a torn muscle in his hip - simply another latent example of the complete unprofessionalism, nay buffoonery, that is NUFC?

Un-bloody-believable!!

It's just a flesh wound

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

"pain in the shin?"

Should arse not be there somewhere?

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Being out for 10 months really messes up the body. I would also think that it would be highly unrealistic for dyer not to feel any sort of discomfort after saturday. By all accounts he ran his socks off for the time he was on. I little pain in his shins is nothing more than the muscle around them being tired. Of course bobby says something and everyone gobbles it up like a christmas pudding. I hope I am right and it's merely a case of getting back into shape.

..... could I have a little more brandy butter, please! ;0{]

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

This method of treatment is called "if it doesn't make you worse it'll make you better" tried & tested on many players. Success rate is pretty bad but it removes the doubt "is he putting on a sicky".

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Fingers crossed that its not that serious. There was a piece of Dyer in todays Grauniad: if he is fit he will go to the World Cup. This is not mere newspaper speculation; within the Football Association's headquarters at Soho Square it is accepted fact.

Dyer set on right path for England's left flank

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

They're guaranteed to push him too hard, like they do every bloody time. Sooner or later (probably sooner) we'll get the 'Dyer in injury setback' blah blah blah felt the leg in training blah blah blah out for rest of season blah blah heartbroken for the lad just when he'd come back into the team blah blah blah one of these things blah blah blah bullshit.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

I can imagine the same headlines Dan. We don't deserve it :(

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Could BR not be trying a bit of psychology maybe? Nah didn't think so.

Do we know if YKD is even in the squad?

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

From the way Dyer was talking in today's article in the Gruniad I don't think that it's a case of the club pushing YKD back too early. It seems that it's more the club having to hold him back. He's desperate to prove himself fit and to get a place in the England squad. The club seem to have done everything right here. It seems all that has happened is that he's feeling a bit sore returning to training after a 10 month lay off. If he is injured, then it's just bad luck.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Dyer has commented that last season, he would have been pushed back, whereas this season, it's been "see you when we see you". I think we may be being a tad unfair on the club on this one. The doctor he has been seeing apparently put Shearer's ankle back together so presumably he's not a complete nugget.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Some further words of comfort and wisdom from BR on Dyer's situation:

"Our physios, Derek Wright and Paul Ferris, think he's going to have days like this where it doesn't feel as good one day as it does another day.

Derek even suggested that the weather can have an effect on it. I know he's got a steel rod down his leg - maybe he's got a bit of frostbite in it".

Why oh why don't I find this as hysterically amusing as BR seems to? :0{(

Wonder if LKD will be able to predict snow/rain fall by degree of pain? "Eh, Kevin/Kieron/whateveryournameis can ye stick yer leg up and tell us how many layers we should wear today?" ;-)

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

could be rust ;-(

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Maybe Cort and Bellamy attacked his leg with a Marbellan Magnet?

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

It's gout I tell you. He caught it from Buff Wiser. Where's Dr Bill when you need him? Oh, I see. An appointment for next Monday. OK, will do.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

Can't help but think that a couple of reserve games before hitting the big time might have helped.

Then again he would probably have got crocked in one of them!

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

FFS Dyer hasn't picked up an injury from playing 5 minutes at the end of a league match against a tired Ipswich team. If he has picked up an injury there then he is VERY unlucky, especially after coming through 60 minutes in the reserves.

I know the pace is faster etc etc, but anyone could do 5 minutes running about.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2001

So, since this "scare", Kevin has played 20 mins against Chewsee and 60 mins last night against Manchester Reserves. According to Ronnie, YBR's planning on having him in the starting line-up on Saturday. Over exposure??? (er something he's used to).
