Hang The Tree -- Literally! Now, I would never had thought of this...I wired the tree to a cup hook hidden under the window sill !

This may sound wacky, but sometimes the best way to put up a Christmas tree is to hang it. People hang plants all the time. Why not hang the tree? A strong screw hook anchored into a ceiling joist will support all but the largest of trees. So why? Because the tree will always stand (hang) straight and your cat (toddler, etc.) won't knock it over!

My third grade teacher did that with the tree in our classroom.

Funny how the memory works, isn't it?

I have also outlined a tree fairly high on the wall, using a tinsel garland, and put a few Christmas ornaments here and there. Now I drape a garland (twisted with mini-lights) over hooks near the ceiling and hanf ornaments from that.

P.S. Cats like bells so be careful both with kitty toys and Christmas frou-frou, where the bells are tiny enough to stick in a kitty throat. (I always cut them off toys.) Instead, buy some big jingle bells for them to play with and leave right in front of the bathroom door so you step on them in the morning--OUCH!
