I have started rowing in the last six months. In the six months before that I pushed on the Concept2 two kilometer challenge. In the last month I have been trying to finish their 200,000 Thanksgiving to Christmas challenge (114.2 so far). I bought an Alden ocean double this summer, and I would like to take some long camping/rowing trips next summer. When I train on the erg it is hard to hold back to a slower pace. How should I train for the long trips I want to take? How would you factor in the fact that I'm 52 and I don't have much time for going to the gym, and the water is starting to freeze arround here.
