where is the best place on the web to look for leica prices? at the moment i try to figure out prices according to ebay offers, but this is not really precise and hardly works with special items. i've seen a book once, but there should be a net-alternative.

Do search in Google for "summicron" or Leica IIIf. This will get you a list of the major dealers and then you can check their prices.

Prices varry SIGNIFICANTLY and are based on condition.

It seems most people like to buy from Don Chatterton or Tamarkin (tho' the latter doesn't seem to include prices for used eqpt.). KEH might also be an alternative, but they're a bit pricey.

Ebay's ended auctions will show what stuff actually sold for, not just what the asking price was. Of course, there is no accounting for a foolish bidder here and there, but I find that popular equipment sells very close to actual market value consistantly on ebay. the only variants are the condition and who is selling it (whether they are a known seller or a "0").

Stefan, Pick up a Shutterbug and look for Jim Kuehl in the midwest. His ad is near the back of the magazine... near the Leica classifieds. He's always been the fairest with me... and I've tried most of them. Some of the clasifieds in Shutterbug might also be worth looking into.

You might check out this location as the prices, at least the sales prices seem good. http://www.leicagallery.com/msales.htm
