Link to The Secret Room?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Legend of Zelda : One Thread

Ok, this problem has been bothering me for over a year, now. In LTTP, I fell into a hole east of the graveyard. Normally, when you fall down that hole, it leads you to a Faerie cave.

That time I did it, but instead, fell into a blue cave-like room covered with blue rupees. There was a telepathic tile at the end of the room, and when I talked to it, it read: "My name is Chris Houlihan. Welcome to my secret room! Do not tell anybody about this!"

Now, for the weird part. NO MATTER WHAT I DO, I CAN'T MAKE THAT ROOM APPEAR AGAIN!!!

So, answer me this: A. Who is Chris Houlihan, B. how did i get into the secret room, and C. What do I have to do to get there again?

you have to use the super bomb where the old temple used to be the upper left near gannons castle. where the stone of ether was.

No, it was in the Light world...

That's never happened to me before and I have beaten that game more times that I can count. I wish I could have seen it myself.

This happened about a year and a half ago, before I got my digital camera. Maybe we'll never know...the truth...

i have seen that room only it said:

"My name is Chris Houlihan. This is my top secret room. Keep it between us, OK?"

(im sure that's really what you mean. i saw the tile and wrote the words down)

but i saw the room at a completely different time in the game.

i 'snuck' into darkworld without beating aganhim the first time in the castle.

from there i went and played darkworld through. after following the bat to the top of the pyramid, where it crashes through, i went to the witches shop, bought potion, and then back to the pyramid. i jumped in, saw that room with the blue rupees, came out, and i was standing infront of link's house, in the lightworld. i went back to the pyramid, and jumped in the hole, and it took me to gannon like normal. strange eh? maybe it had soemthing to do with sneaking into darkworld at the bottom of death peak. spidangulars@hotmail.com

Well.... I have your answers - sort of. I -just- found out about this trick, and have no real idea as to why there are multiple ways to enter the room... But... There's one "definite" way./.. apparently.. I took this from some website. Several seem to be using this exact quote, so I wont give any royalties. Sorry i'm stealing your intellectual property. =) And no, i've never done it before... My only copy of zelda is a rom (cartridge's broken), and my pc game controller is broken, so i wont even attempt to try it with a keyboard =) Anyways.. here you go!

Steps

1. In Kakariko Village in Hyrule, go to the dirt path on the top of Kakariko Village which leads to the Fortune Teller's place, not one of the paths leading to the Lost Woods. Go to the bottom of the dirt path then look up. This is where the "race against the clock" starts.

2. Start running with the Pegasus Boots up to the next screen.

3. Continue moving then stop and run (I'll refer "running" as to using the Pegasus Boots) toward the right screen. If you hit the small sign while running, or if you run above the sign, start back to step 1.

4. Keep running right after the screen scrolls and stop to where you think is right above an open area next to the line of trees below.

5. After you stop immediately move downwards toward the "crowded" place with all these scattered trees.

6. After the screen scrolls, stop running and just walk around the trees, not getting hit or not attacking any enemies, and try to sort of stay on the right side of the area.

7. Once you see very visible dirt path leading to the right-side of the screen, stop, turn, and run along that dirt path.

8. This is somewhat the hardest part of the trick. You will be on the left side of the castle. Run for a split second to the right, then run downwards exactly on the right-side of the fence. If you can, you can take about half a second to correctly "line" yourself up with the fence moving down the screen.

9. Once this is done. Stop almost right before you slam into the posts moving diagonally to the right. Slam into the posts, and you'll have to start all over again.

10. Right when you stop, face the right-side of the screen then run with the Pegasus Boots along the dirt path, never stopping, until the path turns upwards (don't worry if you hit anybody along the way).

11. Once it turns to move upwards, quickly turn Link to face him to the top of the screen then run again until you stop exactly to the left-side of the bush which hides the entrance to the small dungeon where you go through at the beginning of the game.

12. Once you stop, immediately pick up the bush and fall down.

Goody. If you did it correctly, instead of falling down into the dungeon, you'll fall into a room full of blue rupees. You can check out the "sign on the top of the room to see why it was put there. Leave and you'll exit Link's House. Ohh, pity that it wasn't much, but if you do not touch any rupees in the room, exit, then try entering the secret room again by doing all the steps above, you'll enter the room with something better then the rupees. Problem is, I only heard this from the person that found it, so it must be true. Although...I have no idea what the "special" thing is. Ohh well, if you want to know, try finding it yourself.

Chris Houlihan is a boy who won the grand prize in the gaming magazine "Nintendo Power", and part of the prize was getting his name put in Zelda 3.

Wow, thanks! I've been trying to find that answer for years!

-- Davey Rootbeer (yankeefans2@juno.com), March 26, 2002.

I heard that the game takes you to this room if the game fails to load a scene correctly.

-- Alex Brown (alx_db@yahoo.com), December 19, 2002.

Chris Houlihan was the winner of a contest, in which, the prize was to have your own super secret room in one of nintendo's games, so secret, that until the internet only a select few besides the programmers knew about it.

I fell down the place below the single bush top-right of the castle, I had been dashing from the sanctuary, so it could be connected to dashing.

If you go to www.gamefaqs.com, click the drop down box and the top, click SNES, and go to the FAQ page for the Link to the Past, you will see that there is an entire FAQ dedicated to this room. It's called Chris Houlihan Room FAQ and it's under the second subtitle. After reading it, I used the first out of the three methods to get to the room, and after many tries, I made it. It is a room with a blue floor and cavern walls. If you search google for "+the Chris Houlihan room" (including the plus sign), you will eventually find a site with 2 pictures of the room on it. You cannot bring up the map in this room, and the only people that knew about the room were the programmer(s) and maybe Chris Houlihan until only recently. When you exit, you will be standing outside of Link's house. If you are not fast enough when using the two methods in the FAQ, you will land in the castle's basement. If you want a direct link to the FAQ, here it is...

http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/zelda_link_to_post_chris_houl ihan.txt

I can guarantee you the first method listed in the FAQ. There are 45 blue rupees in the room resting atop a blue floor. The room has cavern walls and you will be facing a telepathy stone when you land, a doorway behind you. The telepathy stone will say

"Hi, my name is Chris Houlihan. This is my top secret room. Keep this between us, OK?"

When you leave the room, it will show you leaving Link's house, but no matter what you do, you can't enter the CH room through the doorway to Link's house.

The way i got to it was i started at the sanctuary dashed west untill i could south i ended up in the forested area dodged everyone dashed on the right side of the fence and made my way to the secreet area

-- mike (moemeo1@aol.com), July 15, 2003.

No matter what you do, ther are more ways to get there then one, you MUST MAKE IT in 12 seconds.

Also, the rumor about the sences messing up is true.

Before you goto a new area (Moving Screen) the game stops for 3 or so seconds, and checks the next area for problems. If one occurs, you are sent to the room as well.

Keep in mind, you have a better chance of geting the lottery then finding the room this way. *Im serious*

In my years of playing, I have only heard of 2 people getting it like this.
