Sunday papers round-up

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The lead story in that pinnacle of journalistic excellence, The Sunday Sun, has us in discussions with Forest over the £4mm transfer of 18 yr-old Jermaine Jenas. His agent has indicated that Leeds have made a firm offer for him and that Spurs are also interested.

However, he reckons Jenas would be keen to ensure he didn't move only to rot in a PL Reserve team, and that Leeds are a concern in this regard.

Regarding 25 yr-old Ivan De La Pena, they say BR has refused to deny that he is on the verge of signing him on loan until the end of the season. He is quoted as saying "Ivan has not signed for us and it is wrong to write that he has. I don't know if he is going to sign". They add that DLP is out of contract in the summer, and that a successful loan period could lead to a permanent free transfer.

It would seem that we are in discussions to sign both players. These two would significantly strengthen and round off our squad nicely. Fingers crossed.

Had a little laugh at the People claiming that Barton may be on the way to West Ham. LOL.

BTW, Clarky, I would be over the moon if we signed both of those two.

Jermaine Jenas is a class player. He's only 18 but Paul Hart has made him captin since Forest forced Chris Bart-Williams out of the club. With the amount of financial trouble Forest are in at the moment they'd snap our hands off at £4m.

However, they interviewed the Forest head coach on Century radio the other night here (midlands) and Leeds have already made an offer believed to be in the region of £4m.

Go on Bobby, get doon the City Ground quick and snap up one of England's most promising young stars!

I too would be well chuffed if we got them both, Jenas especially who looks like he could become a £20m + player in the not too distant future.

The lead article on the front page was a hoot. It amounted to "prisoners in jail watch films" but was turned around to perverts watch Harry Potter in luxury jails shocker.

The Forest lad looks class, I'd suggest we buy & loan him back to Forest whilst we bring him through.

Teamtalk reckons there are newpaper reports today linking us with Leed's Stephen McPhail (again), and a "highly-rated youngster" at Tranmere called Shaun Thornton.

Anyone seen these reports, and able to add anything?

Shaun Thornton-wasn't he in 'The Quiet Man' ?

"Ivan has not signed for us and it is wrong to say or write that he has. I don't know if he is going to sign, I just don't want to make any further comment on the subject," - bobby

that sounds like there is a proposition on the table...de la peña would be a great little signing, literally

Somebody pay for Marcelino, yes please.

I'll give them £4.50 for Marcelino, he can stay on the back-track and get the football for us when it goes over the fence.
