I bought a vcd (Last Hero of China)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I put the vcd in my computer and opened it, the cd rom reads it (it shows the vcd label) but there is no data? I check the properties of the cd, and it shows full , 2.28 mb? Can I not read this vcd? Is it only specific to vcd players?

It was distrbuted by

Universe Laser & video Co., Ltd,

Subsidiary of Universie Films (Holdings) Ltd., there is nothing in the cd rom directory, empty!

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks.

The video file should be in the MPEGAV subdirectory. Most of the other directories should be empty or have very little in them. If you can't find anything in the MPEGAV subdirectory, the VCD may have had something done to it to make it difficult to copy, but I don't know anything about VCD copy protection schemes. You should be able to read any normal, standard VCD in any CD-ROM drive. If you only looked at the root drive on the VCD, you won't see anything except various subdirectories like MPEGAV and others. Most likely there's nothing wrong with your VCD, you just didn't look in the right place for the video file (it ends in .DAT, by the way).

Same questions have been asked before. See postings under "Playing VCDs Threads" ... "No files found on VCD" by Jack (ja@mail.com) dated 05 April 2001 and "can't play a particular VCD on my computer" by Hung Hei Kwun (shaolin_pl@hotmail.com) dated 14 July 1999". The questions have been answered by various people.
