Whatis the history, classification methods and purpose of the DSM ?

You should also be able to find histories in a psychology encyclopedia or dictionary. For example, there is a good history in the article on classificaiton of mental disorders in the Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology and Counseling (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books, 1999). I think you'll also find that any copy of the DSM will contain a history, which will explain how the new version differs from the previous ones.
