Photos that are NOT of people

greenspun.com : LUSENET : People Photography : One Thread

So, I was looking back over some of the past posts in the "People Photography Forum" yesterday and I got to thinking that 1) there seems to be a core group of people that post and respond and 2) posts are coming fairly slowly lately and 3) I'm curious as to what kinds of shots forum followers are shooting when they're not taking photos of people. Would anyone else (besides myself) be interested in seeing some "non-people" posts here, or is it better to keep this forum pure? Just a thought.

jeff-

love this image. the tones you have in the walls are great.

oh, don't think i am being crass, i saw this image where you posted it on the mf digest forum. really very nice. maybe it is a people picture--it has the artifact of the human presence.

david-

when i posted a picture a while back that was mostly about the color but included a human figure that was subdued in importance, people told me it wasn't really a people pic and should be elsewhere. times changed?

I think I screwed up the html.

I just bought a beautiful vintage B&J, weith natural maple wood (no paint), 5x7 field view cmaera w/Schneider 210mm lens for a great price, and "The Room and the Shovel" would be a perfect subject for that camera.

That's kind of what I do when I'm not taking people photography.

In truth, my "people" photography is mostly at weddings...they pay to be photographed!

I'm too shy to walk up to strangers on the street and take their portrait!

I wonder if the 5x7 would help with that problem (a la Avedon "American West"...really, I usually attract a big crowd and perhaps a few people would actually pose! Any thoughts on large format street photography!!!

Alan Gibson, who runs the Philosophy of Photography forum, has done street photography with a hand-held 4x5 camera. I don't know where the photos are, but there was a very interesting one of some men talking in Grand Central Terminal.

I rarely take people pictures anymore, although I still have an interest in it (which is why I read this forum). My main interest is dogs. I've gotten into doing dog portraits, agility and herding. For the most part, lots of fun. Of course when I make one of my subjects look bad they might take my head off... litterly.

I take quite a few people pics, but 99% of them are my son and I'm not going to inflict them on you :)

Generally I roam around taking pics of anything I see and like (as can be seen in www.photocritique.net) Though this forum I've actually started taking a few street shots but they are pretty rare (and low quailty) but something I'd like to pursure.

We're building a new house and at the moment that consumes all our time. I have down 2 nights in the darkroom this week, printing baby pics for a friend! Today was the 1st day I have had a camera out in weeks and guess what.. I was taking pics of my boy! I still check the forum daily, so please post away.

Kids

How many kidpics can you stand.......

I'm taking lots and lots of pictures of my twins, but like Nigel I don't see the need to inflict them on the forum. They are, IMHO, more than decent record shots, but they don't say anything special photographically and I don't feel I will learn anything from peoples' comments upon them.

That said, the average natural light indoor exposure here in S. Sweden is currently 1/15 at f2.8, and that's in a flat with large picture windows. I have been creating art while trying to avoid the horrors of on-camera pop-up flash, so perhaps I'll post something Real Soon Now.
