Demise of greenspun.com

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

Steve, since greenspun.com will soon be history, have you and Phil discussed what will become of this bulletin board? Will it move as a separate forum under photo.net? Be subsumed by the MF digest at photo.net? If the latter, will these archives be incorporated into the Pentax 67 archive category there?

Thanks for your efforts keeping this going as long as it has!

I have just heard about the shut down today after returning from the Grand Canyon. I have not heard from Phil G yet but I have heard talk at other LUSENET photo forums that there is a plan to incorporate these into Photo.net. I would hope that we could be placed along side the MF Digest as a separate entity but that would depend on what our present members think and also upon what Photo.net will let us do. I must read more about this shut down before commenting further. Thanks for the kind words. SR

Here is the URL link that Phil G. has suggested be used to transfer our forum to Photo.net. This is a part of the communication between the Webmaster at Photo.net and Phil.

"Sure. This makes sense. We can link it from http://www.photo.net/photo/pentax-67"

Patrick, I tend to agree with you about the separation within Photo.net. We would get lost if we were inside the MF Digest. We are a unique forum that goes beyond just simple Q & A and so we need to be a separate entity. Thanks for the compliments. SR

"Thanks for your efforts keeping this going as long as it has! "

Let me offer a strong second for this statement from a regular reader and infrequent poster who has found it very helpful at times. Thanks.

Hey, I'm not dead yet... But seriously the easiest thing to do with photo forums is move them into photo.net. The site has a full-time staff. For the rest of the greenspun.com stuff, I'm not pulling the plug immediately. But I want to make sure that the services are rebuilt in a way that is sustainable. I've already told Steve that we can move his forum onto photo.net and redirect seamlessly from old greenspun.com bookmarks.

Thanks Philip. At least you guys are considering the end-user by not just shutting down without a redirect.

Will the other forums be the same. Large Format, Canon EOS, Camera, etc.?

Steve, that's one of the Equipment Reviews pages (the one for P67 with a review by Hamish). Not a bad spot, but you'll need to discuss with Phil how to best make clear the difference between this forum and the Reader Comments already appearing under that review.

Steve/Phil,

I check two forums everyday, this one and MF Digest. I find it entertaining and useful. I have an unspoken appreciation of both of your efoorts over the years in handling it in such a professional manner. Sounds like the future will be no different, again, my compliments. Just in case it makes a difference, I prefer the seperation between the two. Most of the posts on this forum are by fairly dedicated users, lots of helpful data. The MF forum seems to attract more comparison posts and flame wars, lots of fun and entertainment, just not as much truly useful data.
