THANKS FOR HOMESCHOOLING ADVICE IN MO!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Thanks to everyone who responded to my letter about needing homeschooling advice. It's working out nicely and I can already notice a stress reduction in my daughter, and me also. I don't have to deal with the principal anymore! Too many responses to write everyone individually and thank them, so hope everyone sees this. Thanks again! Carol

Hi Carol, just one more thought. It will take a little time for your child to "detox" from school life, so give at least 3 or 4 weeks for settling into a new routine. You may (and folks usually do) adjust that routine once or twice before you find what works best for the two of you. I highly recommend a book called "The Teenage Liberation Handbook" by Grace Llewellyn.

Ditto on Grace's book! You can buy it here: bookstore

As to detoxing, my daughter took three years to really recover. Hopefully, you will fare better!

i didn't read the other posts, but thought i'd mention it. you might want to check out home school legal defense. do a search in yahoo, it's around a $100 a year if i remember correctly. but it really gives you peace of mind knowing their is someone to call, if there is a problem.

our kids are recovering nicely....my son left school three weeks before the end of the year last year, and my daughter left at the end. things keep coming up that happend to them in school they are finally telling me, and it breaks my heart to hear the stories.

can I tell you something funny? we thought it would be fun to have an unschool float in the parade next year, holding signs up. we have gotten really silly about the signs. here are a few "ideas" we have had:

free you minds!

sleep late!

stop wasting time!

learn from life!

unschool is cool!

and the funniest my husband came up with: learn naked!
