Where to send m3 for clean & adjust?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi, I have an old M3 DS, and it seems to have some light leaking in a bit; as a well as a shutter which may be hanging up a bit.

Where is a good place to send it for a cleaning & repair (maybe close to Boston...)?

(also, the faster the better, I can't bear to be with out my camera) Thanks Phillip

Actually, I talked to Sherry Krauter a few weeks ago and she wouldn't be able to receive my Leica III(F) in about 6 months because she's rather backed up. I don't know about the M cameras. So I decided to send my camera out to DAG instead and they told me that they will have it done in a few weeks. Not too bad :)

Don Goldberg provides great, timely service, and is attitude-free to boot...

I'll vouch for DAG. He's a star and great to work with. I've sent several Minox cameras to him over the last few years and he's been superb. Become a friend of mine in the process too and that's always nice! I actually have many choices here in Europe, but spend the extra to ship it all the way to him. That must say something!!

Does anyone have a contact for Dan Goldberg (DAG)?

Thanks Phillip

If Toronto Canada isn't too far for you, try Gerry Smith @ Kindermann. He does excellent work and if you call ahead he often can turn the camera around very fast (days).

John Van Stelten at the Focal Point - Louisville, Colorado (essentially Denver metro area) - is working on my dropped M4-2 - quoted me 4 weeks and around $200 for CLA. He's listed in the nemeng.com reference - in fact I had to look him up on that Aussie web site even though he's only 20 miles from my house - global village, indeed!

You want:

Krauter, Sherry krauter@warwick.net 914:496-8834

She's done 3 of my Leica M bodies. The're all like new.

Reasonably priced and absolutely honest.

Don Goldberg is now located in Oregon, WI. He moved from McFarland. Both towns are just south of Madison, WI.

Don's done great work for me and he has a bunch of my cameras & lenses right now.

BTW, Don's father Norman used to strip down cameras for Popular Photography in the 70's & 80's "Stripdown Report". After reading his report on the the OM-1 my father bought an OM-1 which my wife still uses.

Cheers!
