www.eapoe.org is the best online source especially in that it evaluates print biographies in a biblography. Your library might have poor biographies but comparing several different ones might help in sorting out the deficiencies.

Edgar A. Poe was very grim. Every person he ever loved fell victim of teburculosis(probably mispelled). he was insane and worked his insanity into his poetry as a vent. His most famous poem is "THE RAVEN". Good luck!
