Hello all fellow Leica users, A Leica user of some 40 years, I still stand by my 111G, although I must admit that since purchasing a used Minolta CLE I have fallen for it,it is quite superb. Now to my question:- I AM CURRENTLY RESEARCHING THE LEICA 111D (111c with self-timer)AND WOULD WELCOME ANY INFORMATION ON THIS MODEL LEICA AND IN PARTICULAR DETAILS OF THE EXISTANCE OF ANY KNOWN SAMPLES. Kindest regards to all, David Seaman

Do I remember correctly that Keeble & Schucat's camera store in Palo Alto has one or two in their Leica museum?

Try corresponding with Lemon Camera in Ginza, Tokyo as well. I'll get you their address as soon as I can.

Rogliatti states, in reference to the IIId, "Only a few cameras of this type were made in the very first run of IIIc in the 360,000 series, then 500 more from 367,000." It was advertised beginning in 1940. The camera alone was LOOTP. With f/3.5 Elmar, LOOUC. With Summar, LAQOO. With Xenon, LOOWD. The IIId will have the raised step under the rewind lever, like an early IIIc.

Serial number info supplied by Leica to Rogliatti and to Hove, does not acknowledge the IIId as being separate from the IIIc. It could equally well have been called the IIIcS, for IIIc with self-timer. Only 427 IIId were made.

The info that 427 were made came from the Hove collectors Leica pocket book. This is rather in conflict with Rogliatti's statement that "500 more [were made] from 367,000." The Hove book claims that "Leica IIId's were manufactured between serial numbers 360002 and 367325 . . ."

If that information is true, then there could only have been 326 IIId's made from 367,000, and not 500, as Rogliatti claims. So your question may start a new research project!
