Does anyone know if Edgar Allan poe had any awards, prizes, or achievements?When they happened? Or were i can find the information on it? Thank you! -Lucia

His first significant prize was for "A Ms Found in a Bottle". His poem entry "Colisseum" was a controversial runnerup in that category, spawning a fist fight with the editor-sponsor. I think "The Gold Bug" won some sort of prize at the Dollar Magazine. As with most such recognitions they are paltry compared to his real achievements. Today the Edgar is a more prestigious award given to the best annual writers of mystery fiction. Poe invented the detective story.
