Impromptu Meet

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

I was thinking about putting on an orienteering meet at James A Reed Memorial Wildlife Area on January 6th. I ran around at the park today and the map of the park has enough detail that I think you could do a meet on the map which basically shows (no contours)trails, forest boundries, lakes, paved roads, paths, creeks, ponds etc. I think I could set a short, medium and long course that would be pretty fun to do. I talked to the area manager and he seemed receptive to the idea. There is an indoor shelter that we could use. I told him maybe 30 people would show up. Does anybody think they would show up for such an event?

I'll be there. Should we make it an official informal Orienteer Kansas event?

Count me in, Dan. I can bring map cases. You going to use streamers, or do you want some control markers?

I can be there. Nancy goes to church from 9-12 so couldn't make it until 1:00 or after.

OK the meet will Sunday January 6th with registrations and starts from Noon until 1:15. Fee is $5 for individuals and $10 for groups. From hiway 50 South on RA to James A Reed Memorial Wildlife Area entrance on the left. Go about .4 miles to the headquarters on the left. We will use a park map for this event not a regular orienteering map. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced courses. Questions call Dan Meenehan @ 816-807-2467. Pass this info on to anybody you think would be interested.

If we get 30 people at this meet we may have enough money to invest in a Swope Park Basemap.

For $150 you just might entice Spike to wander over to the city engineer's office to pick up that pre-existing basemap for you!
