better quality than VCD with MPEG2, or DivxMPEG4

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi,

I tried to reach a better quality and larger picture than VCD (MPEG1) with the Divx Mpeg4/Avi Codec. The picture quality was much better but the file size was much bigger so that low speed computer (Pentium1 200MHz) had problems (interrupted movements) to play the video. Is there an alternativ codec to reach larger pics then 352x288, better pic quality and still playable for other (slower) computers (than mine Pentuium3 850MHz)

Thank's a lot

The aren't any good options for PCs as slow as a Pentium I 200 MHz. MPEG-2 offers very good quality, but you'll never be able to play it on a 200 MHz PC. DivX can offer very good quality and high resolutions, but you said the 200 MHz PC had trouble with it. The high quality codecs rely heavily on CPUs during playback, so there's nothing you can do for a 200 MHz PC.
