If you were counting on fingers and toes, how many people would you need before you encountered the letter "A"? This is a tricky one.

Would it be as in one thousAnd? Seems like that is the first number that has an A in it. That case, barring any unfortunate incidents of phalange loss, you should encounter this on the fiftieth person. Or 49 other people if you counted your own fingers and toes, too...

I must be a real dunce not to figure these out. They always seem so simple after someone answers them!

I'll take a shot at this one. How about one hundred, one hundred And one? There are no A's in any of the numbers.

I am sorry I was gone all day and its now dark out, and the answer is still out there, I told you it was a tricky one.

ThousAnd?

If I'm counting letters from the beginning I would only need one. If I were counting letters in "fingers and toes" I only need one person as the letter "a" would be the seventh encountered.

Mitch, how many times does the letter "d" appear in the day between Tuesday and Thursday? ;o)

If you will read the post again it states:"counting on fingers and toes"; it does not say "counting on fingers, thumbs, and toes", the correct answer is 55.5555555555555555555 or to be humane 56 people. The 55.555 ect is the sum when dividing one thousand ( the first number that has an A) by 8 fingers and 10 toes (per person).

An interesting approach Gary, but not the direction of my thought patterns and as far as the "d"'s go you might try practicing counting the "a"'s place again, it might be the eight place in this useage. I can't spell, you can't count, I love life when it is in balance!!

I always wonder if a thumb is a finger. Some places say it is, and my sons vocabulary (2nd grade) says a thumb is a "special finger" so I never know if I should count them or not. Tricky Mitch!
