Winter chores

What kind of things are on your homestead schedule this winter?

My homestead schedule is pretty much booked with moving into my homestead and setting up operations. My short term goals are to not make myself crazy thinking about my long term goals, and also to try not to think about all the hard work of moving ahead, LOL!

Someone just called me today to offer me 15 guineas. My ark is being filled already and I have no boat yet. I have 11 chickens in my back yard, 15 chickens in someone elses yard, 3 ducks, 5 dogs(soon to be two), the guineas, and two goats I plan to buy soon.

Looks like you've got quite a menagerie there! We've got 1 dog, 9 cats, 20 ducks, 9 guineas, 3 turkeys (soon to be in the freezer), a bizillion chickens, and 5 hogs (very soon to be 3). We're thinking about getting a milking cow, but don't really know if we want that much added work! Life is great on the farm, isn't it?!?

Hubby finally finished the barn extension enough for me to move in the chickens and goats. The two groups of chickens integrated without much trouble, and the goats are happier now that they are spread out enough that nobody is getting butted all the time!:)

Lately, it's been cold enough to freeze the waters most every night, so we've been dumping waters at night most of the time, and hauling out warm water by the gallon jugs in the morning.

The does are starting to get fat, and we're hoping to start over with kids next month. I'm in the process of drying off the last doe.

Tell us again about your new place, Little Bit. You have barns for the new creatures? Are you meeting and getting along with the new neighbors? Good luck to you.

Hello Little Bit, Lets see...... I want to finish up the electrical wiring in our new house. Then I want to install the drywall and paneling. (Its in the toolshed waiting for me to move it to the house). I need to start cleaing about a 1/2 acre of land and fence it off for the goats that I will purchase in the spring. I will have to build a shelter for them too. Now, that I want to expand my livestock, I better build a building to store the hay and feed in. I want to start pulling my journals and forum post together and make a couple of booklets to publish.......thats all I can think of at the moment!!!!

Sincerely,

Ernest

Lets see, we need to finish fencing around the borders of our land - lots of neighbor problems on one side. We tore down a 100+ year old barn that we need to put up, and just caring for the animals takes lots of time. It's basketball season and with three kids playing, we go to about 4 games a week. Oh yeah, I am working on 3 quilts I would like to finish also.
