Canon EX Lenses

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I have 3 Canon lenses; Marked EX 35mm, EX 95mm, and EX125mm. All three are in round leather cases. I am a camera novice, own a CanonT70 autofocus 35mm camera for my personal use, so am not technically into cameras. My question(s) are; Do these lenses go on the older Canon A1 cameras?, how old and good are they? (Taking condition into consideration of course.

Any light you folks can shed on this will be greatly appreciated.

Try the Canon Camera Museum, specifically at

http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/lens/sp/f_sp.html

then select "EX lens" from the pull-down menu.

The two pages

http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/1955- 1969/data/1969_exee.html

http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/1970- 1975/data/1972_exauto.html

describe the Canon EXEE and the EX Auto, wherein the lens mount is decribed thus: "Lens Mount: Dedicated screw mount (EX mount for interchangeable front lens element)"

Apparently, the EX lenses were the FRONT elements of the lens, only! They coupled to the rear part of the lens, which was "a built-in rear lens consisting of 3 elements in 2 groups." Maybe I don't get out much but this scheme seems like a realy loopy design twist, real outside-the-box thinking. Your lens 'fronts' were, I gather, only useful on these bodies. They sound like real rarities.

I have a couple of the EXEE camera bodies , with 2-50mm, 95 and the 135mm. The cameras are from the early 70's I think. I will say the lens are the sharpest around including todays. I just got them out and can't get the meters to work in either of them , but manual cameras are still kool! aren't they? If yo want to buy a body to use the lens let me know. Jim
