It's not going to happen is it?

A transfer before Xmas that is. There I was, about a month ago, optimistically predicting a transfer but unfortunately I have been very wrong on this.

Like last Xmas, we are crying out for a new player. HAS to be a MF player. All the recently mentioned names look to be staying at their respective clubs or going elsewhere.

Oh well..................

I think it's cos the continental transfer windows are closed and shuttered until after the new year.

I never expected anything other than rumours until then.

As predicted Lynda, we're fannying around, just like last season when a judicious signing around this time could have made all the difference to what could have been achieved.

As in other spheres, we never , ever seem to learn from our mistakes. Our season went pear- shaped last season, and the same could happen yet again for the want of a decent central m/f player - something we've needed for at least two seasons, probably longer.

I dunno - if LKD plays well against Ipswich and Blackburn, he could well be seen with another stocking ;-)

the problem lies in the fact that by not going out and getting a few new faces, we are saying that we are content with the current squad, and that we don't need squad strengthening and ultimately we should be satisfied with the way things are.

The thing is, regardless of how badly we have played at times, on the whole we've been pretty good, we're lying in fourth which will make it harder for Bobby to convince the board that new players are needed. Obviously the Rob Lee replacement is different, but while he's still under contract the board won't see a need to replace him.

I do think they are looking but maybe can't the players they want - as someone suggested. Might as well wait for the right person I suppose.

Back Page Yorks Evening Post......Leeds boss D-O-L is ready to splash the cash again with a move for Nottingham Forest £4m. starlet Jermaine Jenas.......IMHO the best young prospect in GB. If he go's to Leeds without us even putting in a offer I will be most upset... Another player well worth a look at is Grasshoppers Papa Bouba (who play Leeds Thurs) mind you if he is any good D-O-L will probably sign him as well...... P.S. do you think D-O-L knows about the great Marcelino :-)

Does the continental transfer window thing count for outgoing transfers? I would have thought it would just be for incoming players for teams in those leagues, not sure how the could legally enforce a block on a player being sold to another country.

If Leeds do sign Jenas (and I agree, it would be nice to see us competing for young talent) and/or Emerton we should be seriously thinking about putting in a bid for Dacourt as they've got loads of midfielders. Even more so if it happens that Bowyer doesn't get sent down.

With Notts Forest looking very shaky on a financial front, perhaps now is the time to look at going back in for Prutton.

Prutton could do it, but we would need to give him at least a season to get to grips with the step up from the First Division.

As opposed to the 8 weeks for Robert?

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2001

I would give Robert until March, 8 weeks is nothing.
