lens cap for 35 summilux-m asph

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

does anyone have a suggestion for a better lenscap for the summilux-m 35 withouth the lenshood? the one that came with it has a larger diameter than the lensbarrel, which makes it snap of from time to time. how could they do that with such an expensive lens? do the old metal caps fit? or what about a voigtländer one? i'm not using the lens shade, as it is just too big and i don't like the unprotected filter approach.

You can try a Minolta cap. They come in the right size (I think the lens you have is 46mm filter diameter). They are no larger than the filter diameter, so there is nothing which is out from the side of the lens to become caught and make it pop off.

I bought a generic 46mm cap for my 28mm Summicron - $4.95 at the local photo store. This size seems to be common on camcorders and thus the cheap generics.

if you go to www.monochrom.com and look in the rangefinder accessories page you can find really nice metal back caps and metal sunshades made by avenon. unfortunately they do not seem to make front caps, what a shame!
