The Haunted Palace, the Devil in the Belfry are good references for the final theme of the ghostly trolls hiding in the bells for the time of death. The progression from happiness to catsstrophe then death is, of course, lugubriously Poe. The use of sonorous onomatopoeia is part of Poe's unification of mood and all sensual devices(Annabel Lee and the rhythm of waves, the galloping sound of El Dorado). Creative versification, gothic story telling, relentless repetition to enhance the mood(the Raven).
