Reprieve for Shearer?

Soccernet reckons AS has a goodly chance of being reprieved for Andy D'*rsehole's latest screw-up. They say:

Andy D'Urso will do the right thing this week and overturn only the second red card ever handed to former England captain Alan Shearer.

The referee must have watched The Premiership on Saturday night and cringed. Replays clearly showed what most had felt at the time, that D'Urso allowed himself to be talked into making the wrong decision by linesman Graham Beale.

He sent Shearer off for an apparent elbow on Jon Fortune near the end of the 1-1 draw, but later told the Newcastle striker he will back his appeal.

Let's hope this is indeed the case.

Relegate the linesman?

D'urso sent rughead off then said he would back him in an appeal? As for watching the premiership on TV he probably thought "Cameras never saw it but my assistant did

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the Shearer red card, which I haven't seen, D'Urso is a dreadful ref and the sooner he is relegated the better.

The incident was analysed on ESPN last night and Peter Withe stated that if it was a sending off offence then he would have been sent off in every match he ever played in. Went on to say that Shearer was only doing what all good strikers do when they are jumping for a high ball - basically leaning back - as they know the defender behind them will be jumping into them. Also stated that if anyone should have been booked it was Fortune as he clearly had his arms raised...

Fortune will have done himself no harm in his chance of a cameo appearance in Eastenders, that is if he can stay on his feet!

Shearers view was the Charlton players were to blame ....
Speaking after his three game ban was overturned by the FA, Alan Shearer has said the behaviour of Charlton players contributed to the referee's decision. The Football Association rescinded the red-card following referee Andy D'Urso's re-viewing of the incident. Speaking to Talksport, Shearer said: "I was unaware of where the Charlton defender was when I jumped and didn't make contact. "Unfortunately, the actions of the Charlton players didn't help. They told him to stay down in the hope that I would get sent off and that's dissappointing".
