Hi, I'm about to purchase a new R8(which are now built in Portugal) and wondering if there's any real difference (build quality or otherwise) between the German or Portugal R8? Any input would be MUCH appreciated-Thanks, Nick

Absolutely none. The "made in Germany" R8s were actually made in Portugal too.

It would be save to buy one "Made in Portugal" since early "German" ones had various electrical problems that would not interface with the new R8 motor.

By today's standard, Leica R8 is no state of art, othewise, probably best made in Japan.
