Results? I'm not sure where they are. Mook created a complete results list, but he doesn't seem to have posted it yet. Look for Mook to post something this afternoon (Sunday) as he recovers from a strong run at the Possum Trot.

Whoops, sorry Mook, I see that you did post the results. Good job.

I really appreciate having the codes printed on the map next to the controls. It was a nice touch. I knew that the courses would be good ones too, since Mean Gene would deliver nothing but the best Blue Tongue had to offer.

When I started towards 1, I had turned the map over and was allowed a short while to study it. It was clear that the route was straight and that if I entered the woods in the right place, heading in the right direction, I'd get to the bottom of the reentrant at the control. I aligned my route with the latrine building visible from the start triangle.

To number 2 I was following the trails north of the stream. I was trying to cut off the corners a bit and sort of lost my place on the map. I turned towards the control just about 20-30 meters too late when I came apon the stream junction. A few seconds lost.

To 3, I climbed immediately to the fields, west of the baseball field, and then down the old road/trail to the next set of fields. Over the top of Sanders Mound and straight down to the control.

I climbed back up the trail over the mound, and along the other N-S trail around the slow run areas. Passed by Mike S. here. There was a typo in the code for control 4, but that wasn't an issue.

Straight east from 4 on my way to 5, I went around the south end of the large block of woods, NE through the gap in the trees and straight into the control.

Straight to 6.

Here was a good route choice - longer route on a path versus straight in the field. I went straight. I lost a few seconds hesitating just below the level of control 7. There are a number of cliff-like ledges on this side of the canyon.

Around the green to the south side. I started looking for the control well before I was close. There was a bit of lost time here. I think I was influenced by seeing other (unmapped) stream bends.

Just around the dark green to the south side. There were some indistinct paths or gaps between the thickest trees. By this time I had figured out that I should have been wearing a sweatband.

Straight to 10.

There is a link to some photos now available from the UOKH State Champs website. Results are available there too. The photos aren't really taken of everyone, but you can have a look.

From the start I ran along the road then across the field to where the southern trail enters the woods. As this attack point was only about 100 m from the control it should have been easy, but I was a bit tentative after sprinting across a large open area. 490m/2:45.

Took the paths to 2 just like Mook, cutting a few corners. Although I nailed the control I was still moving slower than I should have been. 240m/1:56.

I took the middle path along the contours and then straight up the hill. When the path turned south again, I bounced out to the field. Down the big path and then just right of Sanders Mound (cut off the top two contours) to 3. 1270m/7:22.

Went right of the top again, just left of the trees. I think this tree line is actually another contour or two below the top because I was well beneath the summit. I ran straight at the isolated tree just past 4 and then turned left when I hit the ditch. 700m/4:19.

Straight west to the road then south of the thick stuff. Easy approach from the south side as you can see the little knoll south of the pond from quite a ways off. I met Orlyn at the control. The extra distance makes the leg look slower than it was. 730m/4:55.

Straight to 6. 160m/0:51.

Didn't really consider the path, but would have taken it if I'd known it was paved. Running through the field wasn't too bad. I sorted out the cliff faces and picked out the one that the conrol should be near while still several hundred meters away. I should have then memorized the rest of the course, but I was getting tired so I just concentrated on my speed. 710m/4:15.

Here's where a bit more map reading would have paid off. I thought the stream bend was actually a stream junction. As I crosed the ride I couldn't see a second stream. I stopped to recheck the map and probably gave away around 15 seconds before I got things straightened out. Orlyn caught back up to me at the control. 130m/0:55.

Down the road and then just south of the thick stuff to 9. A few deer tracks made it quick going although my split indicates otherwise. Orlyn went south of the bluff and then up the road which seemed slower. 210m/1:41.

Straight to 10. 170m/1:06.

Straight in. 140m/0:34.

Yes, Mook smoked me along with everyone else, but I was really happy with the run. About halfway through I wondered if maybe I'd regret pushing so hard with the Trot the next day. I'm glad I kept going because it gave me one result to be pleased with for the weekend.

Great course by Gene. You had to push hard, but still had decisions to make and there was little room for error.
