I am searching for the stem which forces boiling water up and over coffee grounds for a 9 cup glass pyrex coffeee percolator. The round glass base measures about 11 cm and the glass stem measures about 13.5 cm.

Margaret; I can't believe it!!! It happened. Sure as I wake in the morning.....and I must appologise. I must first tell you that I do not have the part you are looking for...anymore. And then, I must tell you a short story. Only, it's more for my piece of mind than yours, but only because it seems like one of those times when you go to a shop or a store for a certain item, only to be told by the clerk that they are "out" of what-ever it is that you were so desperately looking for, but it will be in "next week".UUUGggghhhh Anyway. My husband and I bought a house a yeaar ago. The family that owned it left EVERYTHING in it, accept a really cool 1940's real Japaneese Hibachi. And let me say that they were pack rats! Kept EVERYTHING! so we, being the pack rat that I am, had to go through it all, just to satisfy the ole curiosity. Well, two weeks later (it is a large two story home)We had our "keep it for a garage sale" pile, and our "out" pile. My husband and I had a difference of opinion regarding several "useful" items, some of which were the very piecess that you are needing now. This family had 12, yes, 12 Pyrex coffee perkolators, brand new, some not. My husband insisted that they were obsolete, and that we "out" t hem. The stems are offered frequently on e-bay and usually go quite reasonably. I have a few 6 cup and 9 cup, some complete, and some I use as teapots or gravy or sauce makers without the inserts. I make the gravy in the pot and keep hot on the stove. A highly practical gravy boat for family dinners. But, I have been trying to date these pieces. I was told they were make during WW2 when metal was in short supply. Does anyone know the years these were produced? I also love the covered saucepans like the coffee pots and double boilers. When I find them in great shape I sell them on e-bay, when a little worn I keep and use myself, still work great. Thanks Marnie

I bought my glass coffeepot that can be used on an electric burner while in Texas in 1995 or 6 and believe it was at Walmart and for under $10.00. But, it has a plastic lid and innards. I hate plastic, but I guess they'll last longer.

For all of the Pyrex coffee enthusiasts, I have quite a few and love them.The best coffee. I have the original instructions that came with the Pyrex glass Purcolators, it reads as follows: Percolator Method The Pyrex brand percolator has cup marking for easy measuring. Measure water into percolator according to number of cups of coffee desired. water level should not touch the bottom of the coffee basket. To help prevent sediment in brew, run water through the percolator basket before adding coffee. Measure proper amount of percolator or regular grind if coffee into the basket. Insert basket assembly into percolatore. Cover. Place over direct heat. When perking begins, use only enough heat to perk gently for 6 to 8 minutes. Coffee flavor is best if not allowed to boil. Coffee may be served more easily if basket assembly is removed before pouring. Marnie

Re the dates on the Pyrex coffee pots: Models 7826 (6 cup) and 7829 (9 cup) were produced from 1938 to 1951. The 7756 and the 7759 were produced from 1952 to 1970 The pyrex teapots 8336 and 8446 were first produced in 1953. The teapot 8126 is prior to 1953 (it has a flat finial on the lid) Marnie

Coffee Perking suggestions The Pyrex brand percolator has beverage cup markings for easy measuring. Put water into the percolator bowl. (Water should not touch the bottom of the coffee basket.) To help prevent sediment in the brew, run water through the percolator basket before adding coffee. Measure proper amount of percolator or regular grand coffee into the basket. Insert basket assembly into percolator. Cover. Place over direct heat. When perking begins, lower the heat to perk gently for 6 to 8 minutes. Rapid perking (boiling) causes bitter flavor and grounds in the brew. Coffee may be served more easily if basket assembly is removed before pouring. Brew poprer time at correct emperatore. For percolator coffee, perk 6 to 8 minutes. A clear, rich, brown, flavorful cup of coffee is best achieved when brewed without boiling. Coffee is at its peak of flavor immediately after brewing. It can be kept piping hot for serving later, but after 30 minutes, coffee loses its flavor rapidly. For strong brew, use 1 coffee measure (2 level teaspoons) of coffee to each 6 oz of water. A coffee serving is 5-1/2 oz of finished brew. Therefore, instructions are written for servings of coffee, not measuring cups. The measurement markings on the percolators are for 6 oz of water per serving. This allows 1/2 oz for absorption by the grounds and for evaporation. Making a full pot of coffee is preferred, but do not make less than 3/4 capacity of the coffeemaker. If you own an electric range, use a grid under your Pyrex flameware. These can be made out of galvenized heavy guage wire. They look like the grid under the percolator in the photo shown above. If mineral deposits collect on flameware, use two or more tablespoons of vinegar to a quart of water and heat. Or use the newer product CLR, available at Walmart.

I have just purchased two glass, range-top, coffee percolators from Truvalue Hardware here in Sheridan, Wyoming. They are comprised of of glass bodies but the stem, basket, lid and handle are plastic. The brand is Gemco and the glass is evidently Czech, but they are apparently asssembled in Hauppauge, NY by Gemco.

The plastic is not a problem for me. I was using a standard, old aluminium pot here but a glass pot on my boat in Texas. I like the glass better because I can monitor the perking and the volume inside the pot.

Most people break stems while cleaning. A great way to clean your percolator stem is to turn it upside down in a quart jar and spray oven cleaner on the base. Let the oven cleaner run down into the stem (which is now upside down) and then run a doubled pipe-cleaner through the glass stem several times. Rinse well. Oven cleaner is a great glass cleaner when stains are actually cooked on. It also works well for removing the crud under the bands and on the bottom. CLR and water will remove the cloudiness in the pot. Happy perking! Julie

I was able to find the glass basket and stem for my 4-cup Pyrex perculator, as a garage sale. I have become kind of hooked on these old Pyrex pots, and now own the 4-, 6-, and 9-cup pots after much hunting. Here is my advice to anyone searching for the parts to these pots, and this comes from experience:

1. Check e-bay, where people are regularly selling the entire pots as well as the parts. A glass basket and stem can easily go for $10-$12 on e-bay, not including shipping, which is approximately $3-$5 unless the seller is trying to make money on shipping. So that's a hefty price for the parts, but they are up there now and then if you keep checking. 2. I have found that there is no other good way to find old Pyrex coffee pots/parts than to go to garage/estate sales and flea markets. Over time, I have found quite a few this way and am now actually done looking. I have paid $2-$4 for complete Pyrex pots at these sales, and as low as 25 cents for parts!

So I am telling you that they are definitely out there--many people don't like perculators anymore and are practically giving them away at garage sales--but you have to put some time into it, to be honest. I have become a sort of "expert" on these things, so feel free to e-mail me with any questions. Happy hunting!

I cannot believe it.. so many of you have the identical dilema! I, just yesterday let that very part for my coffee percolator, model #7756, slip through my fingers! I took the 'pedestal', I called it, and filter parts out of the pot, and before I could move another muscle.. the pedestal was crashing to the tile floor beneath!:s

Pyrex/Correlle, it appears has a replacement centre, but it also appears that this is only for the Correlle dishes:(

I hope someone in the know will happen by and be able to fix our FINE FIX!

I just "won" an EBay auction for an 8 not 9 cup Pyrex stovetop percolator. Afterwards I realized it is missing the top to the basket. Whoops!!! No wonder I only had to pay $13.81 instead of about $30.00. Is it useless unless I have that top to the basket? If so, I will be selling the stem and other parts to recoup some of my expense. Any suggestions?

I find a lot of these parts on Ebay, but they're starting to get expensive.

My mom just dropped the stem to our 4c pot and that's what I need right now.
