Lolo speaks - BBC America preview show

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Early signs of the press starting to like us again? A piece on YBR before the Fulham match, and this week a piece on Lolo. It started with lots of footage around Toon, shot in black and white :-) Bits of interview with Lolo are interspersed with goal footage from Robert's PSG days (including a somersault celebration!) and goals he's scored and set up for us. The questions aren't heard, but here are his responses. Obviously he's speaking French, so my transcription is the voice over translation. Lolo looks quite relaxed the whole time

About Newcastle...
I love it, it's wonderful, they're fantastic. The people in town are very discreet, unlike France. English people do not dare to approach and disturb you. They're very polite when they ask for an autograph. It touches me. It's very nice.

On his move to Newcastle...
To come and play in the premiership was very good. It was an additional experience for me. To leave France and come to England without speaking the language, although I am learning a little bit, it was very good for my family. It's very positive for me to come to Newcastle, which is a big club in England. For me it was a challenge to come here with such support and a fantastic team.

About being played out of position against Spurs...
We weren't used to playing in this formation. It was the first time. We didn't train for it. So it was very difficult. Because I found myself playing more defensively, and in midfield, we had problems finding one another.

Bobby's post match comments criticizing Robert's performance in that match followed by....
He expects me to place myself int he right position. With my fast running I need more space, so he wants me to use it and help the others behind. I have the capability to do it(smiles), I'm young and healthy so I can do it. And I can bring something extra to the team.

Reporter's inevitable babble about our record in London...
It's true that Newcastle hasn't won in London for several years. Now we will try to get at least a draw, if we can. We have to be at our best to win this match.

The piece ends with the reporter asking who Lolo is betting on as Lolo exits the SJP lobby. Lolo points to the crest on the wall and says, Noo-cas-sell (that's my attempt at phonetically spelling out his pronunciation.)

Interesting that he claims they didn't train for the 3-5-2 against Spurs. I wonder if they really didn't train for it, or he didn't understand what was going on? He did look and sound very positive about learning to do the things Bobby is asking of him.

Very interesting, and also very encouraging that he seems to be enjoying life in Toon.
Thanks for that, ciara.

Aye, Thanks for the piece.

I immediately spotted the bit about not preparing for the Spurs game like you Ciara. Seems like Bobby realises it was a mistake - hopefully 3-5-2 won't rear it's ugly head again.

Robert came back on the Thursday and trained alone as the rest of the team had a day off. They had just the one session to work on it with Robert actually there, so Bobby may have worked 3 sessions with the rest, as he claimed, but the fellow with no English was only there for one of them.

... until 3pm this afternoon :-(

Was that the week of his grandfather's funeral? Can't imagine why else he wouldn't have been there. Unless it was one of those dressing room pranks where someone told him the wrong training info. ;-)
