Leica in Shanghai

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I am traveling to Shanghai in late December.

I am interested in new and secondhand Leica M6 cameras and lenses.

1) Where could i find these cameras for sale in this city?

2) Is China a place where you can get a good deal, compared to US prices?

thank you

john

No, you won't get a good deal of camera in Shanghai. Actually it is the worst price city to buy camera in China. Lecia is way too over priced in China than Hong Kong or US up to 30% more. Other system likewise. In US you probably have the best deal than any other countries apart from Japan or Hong Kong.

I just got back from a week in Shanghai and most of the better camera shops carry Leica. Prices, however, are pretty much equal to retail prices in the USA which can easily be beat by any U.S. mail order place (eg. B&H). The other drawback is that all sales are final and the warranty may not be honored back in the U.S. So the bottom line is that there is no reason why you should buy a Leica in Shanghai.
