Hey Alfie - get your own back!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Some might think I have been a little harsh on Alfie in the past, however, we have not heard from him for a few days and I now realise this place is lonely without him. Others might say I am a little too critical and forthright in my views but this is really just my sarcastic, ironic, English wit!

This forum is truly one of the best things on the whole internet - a wide ranging and fascinating range of comments are always ensured. So Alfie, and everyone else, your comments please!

Photo below (and others) taken in Budapest and Prague with an M4P and 35 Summicron. The other photo's are lost? and window and also zebra

I love juxtapositions!

Great moment. I only wish it were a little tighter towards the left. I don't feel the space on the right adds anything. While tough to take care of those little details while shooting on the fly, you should be able to crop up the print/scan a bit. I particularly like "window" - more direct and less empty space.

Picture with potential. I think if you moved a little closer to the wall on the left to include a steep diagonal component in the picture you could more effectively utilize the lower right quadrant. The way I would have done this is to include door foreground in sharp focus (ie the sign) and have a steep receding wall background which fades into a blur. But that's just me.

Hindsight is always 20/20 on the street.

Hallo Giles,

IŽam also keen on getting to see those photos of ALFIEŽs princess soon. But looking every few hours into this site ended without luck, so far.

So it is great you take the chance to put your photos up here. Thanks for filling a huge gap.

Great photos by the way, especially I like the window photo. But the others as well. Good moments.

Good shooting

Hey, isn't that Alfred Hitchcock in one of his cameos . . . ? :-)

At first I thought it would look better with a 50mm...but...I think it is fine the way it is uncropped...I like the sense of space and isolation that the buildings and the street provides...I had to look twice though....Good work Giles! Regards, Emile.

Now that I'm looking at it full frame just a smidgen crop of the door on the right side...the door takes too much of my attention...it's distracting...I still like the shot!

Reminds me of Elliot Erwit.

Wonderful photo. I like this one the best. I don't think the door distracts at all. In fact, I particularly enjoy the parallels: car under tow/man with crutches, strong pillar on the left/sturdy man at the doorway. Strong bond between the two men obvious in their attitude and mimicked by the sign. Would not crop a thing. Well seen and nicely done. (PS. Put me in the I Love Alfie camp).
