Diego Gavilan

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Gavilan ran the show tonight against Whitley Bay. True, it was against poor opposition, but some of the passes he picked out were class regardless of who you play against.

Final score was 7-4 to the Toon, Gavilan scoring a curling beauty in the bottom corner, and setting up four with crosses from the right.

Whitley Bay took a 2-0 lead, their second was a 35 yard scorcher, flying in the top corner. The Toon 'keeper was a little bit off his line but the shot was quality. Newcastle then got a goal back towards the end of the first half with a scrambled effort. Gavilan had a couple of saved shots and two long rangers that went close.

The second half brought out a few of the younger Bay players (a couple of whom I personaly know) and Peter Beardsley for Newcastle. Pedro played a couple of defence splitting passes but was rarely involved. Gavilan really did stand out, he took on his man, tackled back and his pace was frequently useful on the breaks, it's just a shame our strikers couldn't finish the crosses off.

Freddy Shepherd was also there for the first half, but buggered off just after the end of the period with a couple of his businessman mates (and a young girl who looked quite like him, probably family).

No sign of Bobby Robson, although I didn't look for him particularly.

Cracking game anyway, less than 50p per goal. Gavilan easily the star man, especially second half.

Ah Whitley Bay, the very name of it makes me homesick! Poor child who looks like Freddy though - god help her. Good job she's rich.

Thanks for the report Paul.

If I'd known Pedro was going to play I'd definitely have gone - as it was I went to 't Pub to watch Fulham v Spurs and then the draw. Crap game with Spurs spawning it near the end. Good to see Goma was still cr@p mind. Overall, Fulham huffed 'n puffed but got nowhere.

The QF draw was a travesty - drawn by two former Spurs players who amazingly contrived to get the easiest draw, and at home. Gits.

Slight mistake there, Gavilan set up three and scored one, not four as I said.

And the score was 6-4 :)

Ignore that last post

It WAS 7-4 and Gavilan DID set up four of them

I forgot our fifth goal for a minute :)

Diego's never been the same since he stopped posting on here. Perhaps this might entice him back???

Whatever it is, has obviously worked. Perhaps he's been spending all this time in his pottin' shed. ;-)

Thanks for the report, Paul!

Actually, I think he's just managed to escape from Big Yin's pidgeon loft.
