And here's the snow-on-the-ground map.

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

There is something wrong with that snow on the ground map. I have snow and it doesn't show. At home, I had at least 3 inches (I know big deal...LOL), and it is still coming down hard.

This city isn't ready to deal with the snow. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to drive the 26 miles into work. :( One thing is for sure, I'm gonna leave early to be home before dark. My question is, should I leave now?

apoc, What part of the country do you live in? We are going to get nailed hard here in Eastern Washington.

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Kip,

I work in OKC, but live out in BFE about 26 miles to the east. Right now it is very close to a blizzard outside. :(

Here in the middle of Nowheresville, TX, it looks like we've dodged the overnight bullet (ice/sleet), but are bracing for Ma' Nature to come looking for us again this afternoon and tonight. Forecasters are calling for .5 to 1" of ice/sleet possible.

(((((apoc))))) 3" of snow IS a big deal when you live in a city that's totally unprepared to deal with it (and the drivers aren't familiar with it either). It's always hard to know what to do/when to leave when you live a distance from work when it's nasty like this, isn't it? BTDT.

Brooke,

So glad that it missed you last night. Hopefully you'll just get rain.

I hate looking at the above radar, as it develops from light green to yellow right over my head. :( It is snowing very hard right now, and cars which just got here 30 minutes ago are totally covered.

I told my butthead boss that I'd be leaving early, and I thought he was gonna chew me out. At least I came in. He lives less than 1 mile from here, and didn't get his a$$ in until 10:20. Heck, I could have walked it in less time! I called him at 6:40 to tell him I was leaving for work and no idea when I would arrive.

After I get off the "main" road to go home, I have an up and down drive with a few bridges. The roads are somewhat elevated as they built up the ground to make them. There are at least 8 foot deep ditches on either side. Wonder if I should stop and get me some depends for the ride home. LOL! Besides, I'm finding that I'm having a harder time seeing when it gets dark. I want to be home well before dark. I figure I'll leave at 2:45 to get my son when his school lets out at 3:30. That should (hopefully) put me home just about dark. Who knows, if it keeps coming down like this, I may just leave at lunch!

Lessee if this will compute.

Dammit, they're on to me!!!

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Maybe this one. . .

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

We're having a practice sleet storm tomorrow, from that thin green line, I think. Then back to mild for a bit.

Hey!!! lol I live in BFE about 47 miles east of OKC. I went out to feed the goats this morning and before I could get back to the house, my footprints were covered. I'm realllllly not ready for this snow. Will someone please take it away. :)

Iris, howdy neighbor!

Sitting here at work looking at the streets that had at one time been partially clear now completely snow covered. What is worse is that there is a layer of ice under the snow, due to them "cleaning" them earlier.

I heard that the "site support" where I work had come in around 4am this morning and used all their salt and sand. Hope they try to get some from the city, or they better get to home depot to get something to deal with this mess.

Wishing I was home building a snowman,

Boy, sounds like some terrible weather up your ways.

Just so you know, we are having another boring sunny breezy day here, wind out of the NE at 4, gusting to 17 occasionally. Temp is 77.

Hmmm, maybe I should open a couple windows, huh? oh oh, it went up to 78 now. Maybe I won't open too many, just a couple for ventilation.

Barefoot.... can you say incoming? I knew you could!

apoc, I think if I were you I would head home now and beat the rush. We are getting an inch an hour and it is predicted to be 2 feet worth.

Apoc--

I'm with Kip--leave now, pick up a few videos, get the kid early and head for home.

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Just been out, putting up more Christmas lights. Had to keep paper towels out there to take care of the glow. It's strangely warm and humid out there, uncomfortable, 78 degrees. It's the kind of weather you expect in late May or June. I wouldn't mind a bit of cool weather, I paid my dues last summer.

OG

I just heard that Louisianna is supposed to have tornados this week. They are right behind our cold front. Weather certainly keeps people on their toes these days.

Home Sweet Home!

Boy what a ride. It wasn't that rough until I turned off the main road going home. The road crews had given up on the snow routes, and driving on the snow wasn't so bad. It was the spots under the snow that were exposed that were the problem, as the work they had done this morning caused a sheet of ice to form.

I swear, after I turned off the main road, it was white knuckle time. I don't think anyone had been on the road since I went down it this morning. At the stop sign, you sort of had to guess where the road to turn right was, as you couldn't see anything.

I've been out with the dog to take him potty. He had a blast, and I may try to let him run a bit later. I could see where a few deer had been, and rabbits, and something else not sure cause I couldn't make out the tracks. Hopefully it wasn't the skunk I sort of got close to about two weeks ago. (Thankfully I didn't get a full spray, just the warning shot!!!!)

I've taken a few pictures and will hopefully try to upload them sometime tonight. I've got somewhere between 6-8". I've got to clear the walkway and the driveway outside the garage. The rest of the long driveway I'm not going to worry about, as it is gravel.

I'm out to play for a bit, and cover my son in snowballs. How I wish hubby were home to see the first snowfall at our new home. It is simply beautiful. So quiet, so white, and oh so peaceful.

Stay warm or cool depending on where you are. Old Git, want me to lob a few snowballs at you too?

apoc, glad you got home safely.

Screw the storm pix, I want to see the pouch!

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Apoc, glad you made home all right! Hey, it's okay to be selfish with all that snow. no need to share, okay?

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

...or pooch, whatever...

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Apoc--

Glad you got home safely. CNN showed some film of the snow from the OKC area and it looked really nasty. Yep, I know all about that white-knuckle driving thing. Last winter I bailed from work at lunch time because we were getting freezing rain. I had to pull off the road about every five miles to scrape the ice off the windshield (wipers couldn't keep up). There were three cars ahead of me--as soon as the first one pulled over, the rest of us followed suit, lol. Kinda comforting to be in a little convoy like that.

Take lots of pictures for your hubby :)

Hey--the snowplow finally showed up. Then the tractor magically appeared (he took pity on us and delivered it). The loader went on no problemo, we got the chains on straight first try (that's a rarity) and it's running like a top.

I can go to work tomorrow!!!!!!!!

The snowplow finally came through--YIPPEE!!!

Apoc,

12 inches here. It took my hubby about 3 hours to drive the usual hour to work this morning. I don't remember an early winter storm like this since I was a kid. Last year's ice storm was bad, but that was a bit later in the year. Don't forget to fill water jugs, just in case. A lesson Ilearned very well last year. Tomorrow is supposed to be better, but you and I both know that whatever melted this afternoon will ice over tonight and the roads will be far worse. Thank goodness the snow has moved on. Stay safe and allow at least double driving time in the morning.

26° and holding. . .waiting for the precipitation. . .

Y'alls who have to get out in it tomorrow drive careful, and make sure you've got your winter emergency kit in your vehicle!

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

Yes, please lob snownalls, y'all. Just got rudely awakened (1 AM) by a damn hot flash, even with the AC going. And those Christmas lights seem silly with such high temps.

Son is in Louisiana, Iris, thanks for the head's up. Been kinda watching that situation.

I'll use my trusty wander bra (from discussions long ago and far away) as a sling shot and see if I can't get a few to you Old Git.

I'm not going to work today, as the roads are mostly ice. Talked to hubby last night, and he wants me to take tons of pictures, so I have been. Going to be making a snowman and a snow fort today. I may be getting old, but I still know how to enjoy the first snowfall. Heck, I may even make a snow angel.

Looks like folks in LA, MS, TN, AL are in for some rough weather today. It'll get to GA and NC soon. Be safe and watch the skies.
