The Toyota Cup -EYE witness report (of sorts)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I went along to the annual unofficial World Club Cup last night in Tokyo, between Bayern Munich and Boca Juniors with a couple of friends last night (one a Fulham fan and the other an American).

We didn’t have tickets so we visited the friendly touts. 10 minutes before kick off they were surprisingly selling tickets at face value – I had expected them to be more. So we decided to wait until after the game and managed to get 3 x 65 pound tickets for 20 pounds each. They weren’t together but we didn’t care as they were quite cheap. Now what surprised me was we were doing this 2 meters from the ‘security’ people who were checking tickets and they didn’t bat an eye lid. Definitely need to improve this before June

So we went passed the beer drops – you can’t take cans into the stadium but you can still take beer – those nice Japanese people pour beer into cups. So we went into the stadium and decided to try and get to sit together, we weren’t confident but we thought we’d have a go.

We went to the gate, where one of the seat was located. I distracted the young girl (about 20) checking the tickets and my friends snuck in behind. We decided the best place to watch was the entrance as there were very few empty seats. The ‘security guards’ asked us to sit down – we refused for about 10 minutes but eventually decided to leave. We managed to get in another gate and spend the whole game standing in the entrance. They did ask us to sit down but we said no and they decided this was okay. What are they going to do when the world cup is on???

Anyway, the beer girls kept brining us beer and we kept drinking it. The worst thing was surprisingly not when the German fans realized we were English and started hurling abuse at us – which was totally uncalled for. Have they got no sense of humour? And no we didn’t mention the war, but we did tell them the score ha ha). What really surprised me was that they locked half of the entrance before full time – what about if there was a fire? Or an earthquake? And people panicked? Incredible.

Anyway the Germans won 1-0 through a scrappy goal. The game was boring. Beckhams favourite referee has actually got worst. He sent an argie off for kicking the ball away (scoring when off side) and diving. Yes, both within the rules but a red card??? And only booked one of the Munich defenders for a blatant elbow in the face.

I do think that they will really need to rethink their security arrangements before the world cup .

Why would you buy tickets AFTER the game? surely they'd just be in an empty ground? ;)))

Surprisingly it's not everyones cup of tea - after those friendly Munich fans hurled abuse at us when we started singing 5-1 to the English (I know not big and not clever). We decided to send a coupke of them, the two who seemed the most displeased, a couple of beers. So the girls took them up and they were rejected!!!! Incredible.
