One of his 5 rules to writng short stories is that the story must convey the Truth, so my question is what exactly is the Truth in the story Ligeia.

What is truth? In the sense of the French writers, the term "vraisemblance" or consistent plausibility applies in that the story is written as the observations of a narrator under the spell of his former love's will to endure. The truth that Poe means however is of a higher order, a philosophical, metaphysical Truth in this world and the next. That the spirit is immortal and endures is the core of the tale.
