hello. i'm somewhat of a rave partygoer myself. i dance and all and admit rustyness in my moves. and i am sorry man but i can't help you much but i'll tell you this. party hard man! party really hard. eventually you'll come across seeing good dancers and you shall then get an idea. but don't bite styles. have your ethics. when you hit your dancing peak, you best be fucking original. maybe try going to kazaa and download some phat video clips. key search word would be 'liquid popping' and or 'rave popping'. there is this one fool who has a video up and it is called eric's liquid rave or some shit like that. but like i say, the more you party and gain residency on that dance floor, the more you'll come out with shit. so hey, glad i could almost help. p.l.u.r. and all that bullshit. your friendly neighborhood spiderman

www.style2ouf.com is salah, he's a french dancer and you can learn from him if you need it. I saw him live a few days ago in a dance group in hartford... amazing man. anyway, whoever said liquidpop isn't awesome (eric)... can you tell me who you think is the shit then? and if you say mr. wiggles, i'm gonna slap you. oh yeah, there's another link, www.mrwiggleshiphop.com or something like that, just search "Mr. Wiggles" and you'll find the link. it's overflooded sometimes, but there are a lot of videos there too.

for all the newbs: Reflective.net also, slsk (slsknet.org), rooms POPPING, LIQUID. If u like undeground dance styles that one comes accross at the Raves, these few sites will prolly change ur life. So hope to see u there. Note to all the newbs: -Bad Terminology: LIQUIDPOP, POPLOCK, etc... -Good Terminology: I do Liquid and I pop, or, I do Popping and I do Locking

Why? Think about it. There are gazilion styles out there, how would u call the style of someone that mixes about 30 of them? Well, i hope u see the issue here.... Peace and see u there. e-motion

-- Anonymous, February 17, 2004

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2004

I am 34 and lived thru both the early UK b-boy scene, and the 89-93 rave era. I can't believe people think there is a right and/or wrong way to dance to 'rave' music ! In my experience the whole attitude was 'it dont matter what your dressed like, where your from, or how you dance......It's about peace love and unity, and having fun !! Maybe i'm looking thru rose-tinted glasses, and the original vibes that started the scene are long gone, but proper ravers should be too f**ked to notice how well they or other people are dancing LOL

Hello no one answered my question before, can white girls rave?

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2004

Can white girls rave? If so can u give me some tips.

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2004

Yeah white girls can rave... I'm a white girl :) yes I can rave :) It's no different than from a guy raving, just we're girls and just look sexier ;) hehe, anyway, just listen to the music and go with your own style, don't give a shit what other peeps think, if you're too self concious then you'll look stoopid! That's my 2cents :) Anyway just relax and have fun :) Peace out...

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2004

Hey girls Raveing is just hot, but to the question at hand.Dude if you want to learn more moves just watch. When you got the basic liguid ball down you can watch people and pick up the other moves.Thats how i learned and now i ripp it up.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2004

There is no one way to rave. What you do is this: find other ravers, see their moves, use the moves you like, and create your own style. Just remember, your feet are as important as your hands. So keep both moving! Also, for any move that you do that seems blocky, put effort into it. At first it will seem kinda bad, but once your body gets used to doing it, you'll do it with less effort every time, and it WILL be smooth then. Work hard, live hard, party hard, love hard!!!

-- Anonymous, May 13, 2004

Ive been raving for a long time, off and on ya know and just last year i went to an art contest in coppell texas, its called VASE. for those who knows what vase is, yall should look for me. Im the one break dancing in the main hallway near the stairs most of the time. Just email me if u want more info about vase. Its a school related activity but has a super layed back atmosphere and for those who artists will meet alot of other student artists... plus theres alot of girls=D.

-- Anonymous, May 18, 2004

Hell yeah white girls can raze, and they look sexy as hell doing it too :D i wanted to learn form a female friend of mine, but her b/f was a dick and though i was "getting too close" so that ended instead of instigating him. shame, she was damned good too... and i still can't dance :P thanks for all the links, and for some reason i just never thought of looking on kazaa for clips... think that would be an obvious thing to try!

someone asked a good question, if i were to buy some CD's which would you suggest? she suggested "DJ X Club Experience Vol 2" and I love it, 'specially "Shiney Disco Balls" by "Who da Funk" but what else would you recommend?

thanx again!!

-- Anonymous, August 11, 2004

Im 13yrs old also and im a liquid popper, glider and i love to rave,

But any ways you people should not be looking up videos on how to rave.. thats just silly.. you should make up your own moves and practice on them every day.. and if your looking for some good techno i would get on limewire or kazaa or even get bittorent and goto www.torrentreactor.net but search for these people

Gigi dagostino, kay cee, Robert miles, ATC, ayla (get part 1,2,3,4,5) and umm if you wana hear a fucked up weird ass song then search: Little Fluffy Clouds by Orbital... weird shit o_O

-- Anonymous, August 17, 2004

There is no such thing as liquid popping, popping is a umbrella term with many other styles under it, such as gliding, wavin, tuttin, saccin, boppin, strobin

Ive been popping for about a year and a half and thats barely enough practice for me to get down at clubs and not look goofy, its not easy ,practice hitting as much as you can and not only your arms but your neck chest legs and stuff too.

Dont call is poppinlock or poppin and lockin bcuz they are two tottally different dances under the same group....funkstyles

-- Anonymous, October 09, 2004

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2004

First off I would like to give much props to people who are trying to learn any type of glow sticking. Whether, it is "popping", "locking", or "raving". However, gtscows1@aol.com..you are one ignorant and quite arrogant smart ass. And 3 glow sticks in each hand truly isn't shit. You might "THINK" you're better than everyone else on here. and maybe you are...but join a real rave scene and they'd eat you like fucking E! Most people who say they rock at something simply blow ass. And before you want to post your derogatory bullshit learn how to spell. Anyone who is willing to learn and can do it...I think is the first step. So why don't YOU go to a rave, eat a little too much E and go fuck yourself. You too once were just learning and I'm sure you didn't learn everything YOU know...PRO...all by yourself. Give these kids a fucking break!!! Everyone else...take your time...don't follow what everyone else is doing. If you can learn from a friend, do it. If not become one with the music and the sticks will do the rest.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2004

The great thing about the "Melbourne shuffle" is that it's unique! Even if you tried to copy someone's moves, it's totally different. I'm sure you shufflers know what I'm talking about.

At least in Sydney now, people are starting to shuffle!

It's awesome!!!

btw: Re: www.melbourneshuffler.com Can't download the videos. :(

OK. Sure is a lot of things going on here. Hi all - I started going to raves (and all the other names they come under) in 1991. Saw some beserk dancers and finally met one after trying to learn for many years. He taught me the basics and what to do with them. Since then I have enjoyed being able to express myself through dancing to the fullest extent and not feeling restricted when the music lifts and goes down.

I wanted to say - all this stuff you are going on about with Eric starting a new movement etc, is not really true. That style of dancing was around when I started and I bet it was there before. It's had many names but it involves combining a lot of different dance styles and basics to create a fluid - rave style of dancing.

Please stop thinking this is new. It has always been around since 1990 and a lot longer before that I bet.

As many people have said - just watch and learn and if you can talk to someone to get some hints then great. The end result will be learning a number of basic moves and then using any number of them at the one time together.

Also, I highly recommend 1. practicing lots, 2. dancing without drugs at least some of the time, 3. go with the flow - definately no thinking!

PS. Anyone using the word newb or noob in their post is sad and either has memory loss and cannot remember what it was like when they first started, or was born a master of all things and is being an arrogant sad mofo.

-- Anonymous, October 24, 2004

hey i just thought i would write here but what the hell, im a raver to and i only just started and the best thing to do is to go out to some raves and do ur stuff then watch other people...thats how i learnt and u can pick it up its really easy.....

-- Anonymous, November 11, 2004

hey all, ive been raving for about a year now, i kno this is gonna sound repetitive, it is true and helpful. the only way you are gonna get good is by lots of practice, Great Music to dance to, and watch fellow dancers hit the floors with their moves. the vids you see online are a great reference, but not as good as seeing the real thing before your eyes.

i PERSONALLY recommend Dark Trance 7 disc 1. the strong, dark, and very clean beats give the feel of the music, all you have to do is close your eyes, visualize the music and move to it, simple as that.

Good luck to all the young ravers out there. Best of Luck

hey...im a newb...n i hate to sound dumb n all but i wanna try stringing cept idk how to hold the strings. i see some ppl like wrap em around their hands but could somebody help me n out n splain how to tie em on or w/e?? thx

hi, i am a West Coast raver from California(Sacramento). I am 21 years old and i just recently moved to New York(Albany). I left the rave scene about 6 years ago when my friend committed suicide and now i am trying to get back into it and refresh my skills. If anybody has any advice they could give me please send me an e-mail to my e-mail address please as soon as possilbe. Thank you!

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2004

I've only been raving for about 9 months now but I have gotten very good at dancing. The main thing is to be yourself and put your own style into it because you don't want to be a second rate version of someone else...plus if they see you out busting thier moves they could get a lil pissy. The drugs help out if you are just learning because first off you are less shy and more prone to do what you feel; second they make you able to do things you never thought you could do when sober. But try it w/o the drugs cuz thats when you really learn.

I just sat back and watched some of my friends at house parties do their dance moves and I learned the basics from them and I added in my own stuff after. Also the music has a great deal to do with it...you have to like the music...like I cannot for the life of me dance to drum and bass but when someone busts out the break beats or trance I'm out on the floor tearin it up.

Also baggy pants help out when you don't know how to do much with your feet...it makes it so your feet are covered and every little move you make with your legs looks bigger when you have baggy pants on (Plus you can stash all of your glowsticks and whatnot in the pockets) I love my UFO's although I get made fun of for wearing them.

Just go out and get the feel of the music and do your thing, the people that matter don't care how you look when you dance and they are just happy to see you having fun. And I've found that most ravers don't pay much attention to your dance moves b/c they are out there doing their own. =)

Roanoke, VA Love ya'll!

Hey,

I am 18 and from the UK. I have been raving for about a year and a half now and I love it. Over the last 8 months I have really gotten in to glowsticking and using raverings, I think you yanks call em photons :P

The best advice I can give is just to get on the floor, start moving your arms, start to cross your hands over and back again and then take it from there. I started to do that, I realised I was able to do it really fast with practice. I now try and time my movements with beats in the music, which is a great feeling when you can throw an arm out straight in Q as it deepens your sense immersion with the tunes!!

You may find that some things although being spectacular are not really suited for a rave because you risk hitting and injuring other ravers, it's not worth the risk in my opinion. But there's nothing to stop you going at it in your room!!

I have watched some of the videos on the house of rave web site and I am in absolute awe at the ability of those guys!

and to the female ravers, nothing is sexier and more beautiful than a woman who can really get some moves goin with glowsticks! All the best to ya!!

-- Anonymous, December 17, 2004

Yo wuts goin on ppl, neone need ne help wit liquid moves or especially string moves email me, i got clips of some shyt taken from bout 8 different ravers.... Hit me up and dont worry so much bout da moves when ya hea da beat the moves will come and the flow will follow... DIZZY peace

i gotta admit starting is pretty hard, but i have more of a q then an answer, iv recently taken up glowsticking, and damnit, when u flick them for the spin its impossible to catch it, anyone able to give tips on that ?

-- Anonymous, February 12, 2005

Yo When I started I started out poppin to pop u gotta hit to hit u gotta kno how 2 control every part of ur body. I would just say learn to control and isolate evry part of ur body. By Isolate I mean to only move one part at a time like this Diagram... the 4 straight lines are each segment of ur body | <= Head or Chin | <= Chest | <= WAIST | <= KNEES

'>' = body part which is sticking out (i used "...." to sepertate each step)

|...........>...........|.............|.............| |...........|............>............|.............| |...........|............|.............>............| |...........|............|............|.............>

............^...........^...........^...........^ ...... (stepX)..(step1)...(Step2)..(Step3) Thats jus a basic bodywave and u cant learn new moves by jus copying some 1 elses that is biting no 1 likes a biter. Let someone elses moves inspire u 2 create sumthing new. I learned every thing I kno from practice.

-- Anonymous, February 27, 2005

yo yo im 15 i just started popping a couple months ago im learning the basics and stuff if yu really wanna learn yu should go to www. style2ouf.com or www.houseofrave.com or on search engines and look up pop and lock , popping , locking , liquid whatever floats your boat , remmeber not to bite just feel the beats and move with your own style if yu guys want more tips just add me on msn and ill try to give whoever a hand see ya and goodluck learning

-- Anonymous, February 27, 2005

Hey, I'm now 15 and have been raving for around a year. I haven't acctually been to any raves, but I know hundreds of moves, some of which I made up with my friends. I do not know all this crazy terminology: locking, popping, whatever. I just wanted to know if anyone knows good bands and DJ's to rave to. I myself like Happy Hardcore, like the band Scooter, because it is very energetic. So anyway, if anyone has any advice, or just wants to talk about raving, e-mail me!
