Aye, not a bad crowd for a Worthless Cup tie, another half Mill in the coffers - you could buy half a Jason McAteer for that. Wonder who we'll get next.

LOL. How many did the Makems get in that Cup tie against West Ham last season, including 8000 West Ham fans? LOL.

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

It was a poor turnout. The highest of the WC this season, twice as many as at Arsenal last night, more than for Arse v Man U, 4 times as many as the other all premiership cup game last night... and all paying punters!

Amen.

Not to mention the obvious that it's 32000 more than the Mackems will get for the equivalent fixture this season!

You'd get a full house again if you didn't treat it with such contempt.

Hmmmm - wish we were in the position to treat it with contempt....

that's a local derby LR!

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Geordie....a local derby it may be but 40,000 fans still had to travel from Basingstoke didn't they?

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

Nick....we would still get 60,000.

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

You could now, LR, after winning everything for a decade. Come back with that statement in 5 years' time...

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

Or next season after Veron has scarpered.....

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

Kenny...at least get yer "dig" in context. We used to get magnificent support pre-Veron and we'll have it post Veron.

....and Douggie.....I'll give ya we will lose some support from the cling-ons after 5 wilderness years but I can point to many many 70's and 80's games where we drew top crowds for smaller clubs. Bournemouth for example...FA cup replay..sold out...55,000 v's 3rd divs dross :-)

You have one of the best supports granted but don't think for a minute ours is generated purely on the back of 10 years of silver.

LR, you know I don't think that - we've had this conversation many times, but you will have some drop off.

LR - about 7 or 8 years ago I went to Old Trafford to see a second leg League Cup match with Port Vale. (Beckham made his debut in the first leg by the way and I was there!) Anyway, the crowd was about 30 odd thousand which was much bigger than I'd expected but I was told that attending matches like that gave you brownie points when it came to getting tickets for the European games - is that right?

..... you're in danger of clouding the issue, Jacko! ;o{]

Yes, I believe that sort of scheme operates (or used to) at OT. Funny how it didn't get raised before ;-))
