Coincidince, Luck, or answered prayer?

Have any of you ever wished/hoped/prayed for something that came true in such a way as to leave you amazed? My son wanted to go to Space Camp in Alabama-which was way too expensive for us. (Not to mention too far away). However, I "just happened" to get a flyer where NASA had a place here in Ky that was an Educational Center. My son, a 5th grader said he would be content to go there instead of Huntsville. I told him I would try to find about it but frankly, I had a lot going on that week and forgot about it. About a week later, the 6th grade teacher said she was taking the 6th grade but had ONE slot open, and would take ONE 5th grader. To chose who would go, she gave out worksheets on space projects and whoever made the best grade would go. My son came home from school about a week ago, grinning from ear to ear. Today, he's on the "Life Support" crew on the Challeneger Educational project. Funding for this "just happened" to come through- (its quite expensive,) so he got to go for free.

We've had a whole string of these happen latly-the forgotten travel voucher check that came just in time to pay for an unexpected household expense, my kids peditrician "just happened" to have a sample of the pre-med my daughter takes before going to the dentist-that saved me forty dollars! One morning, my kids working a puzzle on the floor. I thought they need a table to get up off the floor- they both have dust allergies, but I didn't want to tie up the kitchen table. I had to go shopping that day anyway, so I looked at card tables, but couldn't squeeze that cost out of my budget. That very evening, Grandpa asked if I could use a card table, they had one they never used and wanted to get rid of it. Now, this is a man who dosn't "get rid" of any thing! But I had not said anything about the table! It was really weird.

Is this just luck? My new Age fried calls it "putting it out to the Universe" I believe God will meet our needs, but I didn't NEED a card table, my son didn't need to go to the space station- and I have way too many other more important things on my prayer list to ask for a table. Still.......

A few years ago, we purchased an electric cart for me to use as I have trouble walking. We had a pickup truck and my DH devised a system to get the cart into the back of the truck using a winch. The trouble was that there was no protection for the cart from the elements. We thought of using a tarp, but how would I get it on the cart. Well, one day my DD was having her house exterminated for insects and the man asked her if she knew anyone that could use a cap for a Ford truck. Would you believe it not only fit our truck perfectly but was a good color match!

Kelly, You are not the one who decides NEEDS he does so I guess that even though you didn't know their was a need, the unknown need was met by the one person who knows our needs even when we don't. Believe and trust in the Lord and you will florish. Sally

Although I sometimes refer to coincidence or luck in an off-hand comment, I'm trying to break myself of the habit as I do not believe in either. :) I believe all good things come from our loving Father. Many, many times in my life, I have been given what I need just when I need it the most. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind where it comes from. Even during the very toughest times in my life, when I sometimes didn't know where my next meal was coming from, he not only provided the meal as it was needed (never once did I actually go hungry!), but daily blessed me with many other things, big and small. This might be something as little as a cheerful smile or encouraging comment from someone, a gorgeous sunny day when I was feeling down, to an unknown stranger who paid my house payment and power bill once when I had not a penny to my name. Often times those blessings came through other people, some Christians some not. But I know who prompted them to help me at just the right time.

Something I want to add, is that He not only gives us what we NEED, but loves to shower us with many blessings, things we didn't know we needed, things we didn't need but just "wanted", and also things we didn't even know we wanted, but were so thrilled to receive. I have been astounded at what he bestows on us. Do I believe in answered prayer? YES! But our loving God gives so much more than that.

Many folks forget that Jesus walked the earth as a human being, subject to all of the needs of being alive that we all share. He knows our every need, great and small..sometimes the small needs which are met build us up to withstand the lack of greater needs when they arise, knowing that our Father will provide for us in His own time. Sometimes I would love to have a neon sign placed overnight in my yard which says "See? I have done this for you. love, God"..but instead, I have to have faith that He is the one who gives me what I need..I do not believe in coincidences..I DO believe in the Lords' promises..God bless.

A quote from a wonderful little book called "Small miracles". "Thousands fo years ago, God spoke to man through the sublime miracles he performed on massive and gradiose scales. In modern times we are bereft of that privilege. Today we wrestle with a hidden God, a concealed God, a God who no longer parts seas, stops the sun, or turns people into pillars of salt. Instead we have coincidences - smaller, more personal, everyday miracles. For when a coincidence does take place, it is nothing more and nothing less than God tapping us on the shoulder, whispering, or at times shouting:"I'm here! I'm with you!" I bought this book for myself one Christmas, something I rarely do. It has been read and reread. A great, warm, comforting message.

James 1:16&17 says " Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the Heavenly lights, Who does not change like shifting shadows."

Darcy-I think your on to something. Its like, if I had wanted a card table, and had plenty of money and just went and bought one I wouldn't think of a blessing. I think perhaps God takes us through these conveluted ways to get us to pay attention to our blessings.

Here's our very recent story! My DD had a beautiful peach faced lovebird for the past four years. She spent hours with this bird, training it, loving it, etc. Her bird won Grand Champion (Best of the Best) at the county fair three years in row, something very rare!

Friday night my DD came out of her room in tears. Her lovebird died of unknown causes. Both she (age 12) and DS (age 4) were just devastated. I spent some time online tracking down and emailing lovebird breeders that I knew, figuring we'd buy her a new one for Christmas if she wanted one (which I found out later, she did).

Saturday morning, she was still very upset, but hubby and I ran some errands and as we were driving along, I was thinking about a friend I hadn't talked to in AGES. Later that afternoon she called and told me she was talking about me that morning.

She had a client who has been sick for the past year and her cardiologist informed her to find a new home for her bird. My friend wanted to get it for my DD. She didn't know that DD's bird died the night before so when I told her this, we both decided it wsa fate.

To make a long story short, we drove to her clients and picked up a 5 year old Nanday Conure, cage and all, for Free! The bird needs some work but my DD has already bonded to it and can pet it. We figure it was meant to be!

One of the most sucinct statements I've ever heard is "The Universe is an idiot. To get what you want, just ask."
