Best general zoom lens to use with D30

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi,

Which is the best lens to use with the D30? I believe that the D30 multiplies the lens zoom by a factor of 1.6 - this means that a 28mm lens becomes 45mm on the D30.

Is there any Canon (or alternative manufacturer) that makes a lens that will cover the more normal 28-105 range when on the D30? I'd like to stick with USM or similiar.....

Do others feel that the D30 is limited by the 1.6 magnification factor when using a 28mm lens on the D30? Or is this something you just have to learn to accommodate....

Thanks,

John

Maybe a 20-35 USM would be a good choice? This would give equivalent 32-56. Or perhaps the best choice would be the 24-85 USM, giving equiv. 38-136, which is very similar to the old 35-135 range.

The new 16-35L, if you have a fortune to spend. Maybe a used 17-35L once pros start dumping it to buy the 16-35L.

I think Sigma is selling a 15-30mm, as a solution for the current generation of digital cameras.

Some people have bought 14mm prime lenses for their D30's in order to get true wide angle results.
