Cuttings: John Milton on leisure

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

His leasure told him that his time was com,
And lack of load, made his life burdensom.

--John Milton, "Another on the same"

Lots of folks are burdened, methinks. Send them to the country to learn what is fulfilling work.

Inspirational, Randal!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

Will take this to school today with me to post on the teachers' email. We should give it to the parents who lament that they can't control their kids.

Too much leisure is worse than not enough. People who work to accomplish their goals are happier and more fulfilled than those who don't. But you said it much better than me!

Rose, glad this cutting spoke to you. There are more of them (Cuttings) at Christians Only under the "Of Me and Mine" section, if you're interested. Don't all of us need to learn better the balance between work and leisure? I know I do.

Couldn't sleep last night and so was up at the dining room table at midnight reading Milton's Paradise Lost. What a wonderful talent Milton had for both prose and poetry..glad to see someone else admires him as well.
