Purloined Letter: Different Views (Structuralism, Formalism, Reader-Response Criticism)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

On the Purloined Letter, how would a Formalist, a Structuralist and a Reader-Response critic comment on the Poem? Any links, ideas or help will be much appreciated.

Perhaps you should start by reading 'The Purloined Letter'. The first thing you will discover is that it is not a poem. After you have read your primary material you may find your essay a little easier.

Why are you students so damn lazy? Read the damn book!

It's not a "damn book!" It's a short story by Poe!!! Whose the idiot now?

That would be "Who is" not "whose," which would be possessive. A curious error for someone picking such a nit with someone else.
