You can subscribe if you want, but I'm not gonna. New York Times, pinched from Lucianne.Dismayed by its status as the Taliban's favorite automaker, Toyota today rolled out a new line of S.U.V.'s and pickup trucks for 2002. Named "Northern Alliance" after the Afghan rebels, the new vehicles are specifically designed, according to a Toyota spokesman, "for today's all- terrain freedom fighter."

Sweetie tells me this is a satire. Hell, sounds reasonable to me!

It definitely has an Onionesque flavor. I didn't think the NY Times went in for that sort of thing.

My 1979 Toyota 4x4 has 5/29 running gears, Detroit lockers front and rear (Tru-trak), Marlin-Crawler, and geared 108:1. The trucks mentioned in the article are stock Toyota trucks. The terrain in Affie land are different than the 4-wheeling trails we have here. The reason why Jeeps are not used in Affie land, because they breakdown more readily than Toyotas. Toy parts are easier and cheaper to obtain than Jeep parts. The article isn't a joke. If you want a good rugged 4x4 all-terrain Toyota truck, find one between the years of 1979-1986, straight axle (NOT IFS independent front suspension).

Toy Owner, we're a bit paranoid around here because of the recent closings of LUSENET forums due to trolls. We think we know who you are but are not sure. Would you please either post your usual handle here or drop a note to the jas_donald@yahoo.com mailbox? Sorry, don't mean to be so despotic but events demand it.
