EOS 1N reprogrammed for E-TTL?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I've recently come across some information which suggests that a 1N can be modified by Canon to work fully and with all the benefits of EX Speedlites, in particular E-TTL, which I'd love to be able to use the 550 Speedlite in this regard. Has anyone else heard of this, or indeed, had the mod done? Thanks!

Its my understanding that although the EOS-1N is incapable of E-TTL, it can be reprogrammed with a special function that allows it to drive an "EX" speedlite in FP/manual flash mode, that is the camera can use the flash at a shutter speed higher than x-sync (1/250), but without automatic metering.
