Fat Barthez Mk II

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

What a fool!

Two absolutely mind boggling mistakes, although I have to admit I was on the verge of feeling sorry for him after the second one.

If you didn't see them, I'll try to explain:

The score is 1-1 (Arsenal v Manure). FB gets a simple backpass to deal with, and lines up to belt it up the field. Instead, he passes it to Thierry Henry, standing about 15 yards away, who runs a few metres before slotting it calmly past Barthez. He then has quite a nervous smile on his face, probably dreading the pounding his ears are going to be taking after the match.

Then he does it again! Not nearly as bad as the first one, but still an awful mistake. A long ball from Arsenal is seemingly easy to collect for "Fabien", who comes out to get it. On the edge of his box, with the ball apparently in his grasp, he lets go of it and Henry slots it away. FB is now REALLY scared. He pulls his shorts up to display his thighs for no apparent reason, as Taggart angrily shakes his head.

Barthez has cost Manure a point today. The match was heading for 1-1, both sides not really threatening, then he does something like that.

It really makes you glad that we have Given, who is looking a lot better than Barthez this season.

Is it me or is Bartez a case of the Emporers new clothes. Nobody seems to be prepared to stand up and state the obvious. He's crap. A liability who is costing his team vital points. Personally, I lvoe him to death and the more howlers he drops playing for Manchester United the more I like him

-- Anonymous, November 25, 2001

What gets me, is that no Man u supporter you talk to WILL state the obvious. Barthez is a clown who is costing them points. Similarly the won't admit Ferguson has dropped a major b*llock by selling Stam. Living down here I find myself in arguments with the Man U supporters regularly and you'd be hard pushed to find one who doesn't wear red tinted specs. At least at the Toon we know when we're bad and admit it but they won't or don't see it.

Ferguson is so arrogant he will persevere with the current formation. He has no one there who will stand up to him and just beacuse the ordinarily pro Man U press dare to suggest he might have made a mistake, he throws his dummy out of the pram and refuses to speak to the press for the rest of the season!

Paranoid or what?

-- Anonymous, November 25, 2001

Actually, Barthez kept them in the game for much of the match. Gary Neville started the rot with a gift for @rse. FB continued it with the second. The third, had the second not happened, would have been put down as an unfortunate error as he was sliding out of the area with the ball still in his hands, due to the wet surface. He had to release it. Just a shame he elected to drop it at Henry's feet rather than hoy it out for a throw. You have to feel sorry for him. Nah, on second thoughts, of course you don't. Long may he "rain".

Classic bit of improvised footy humour. After the 2nd, @rse crowd chanting "Give it to Barthez". What made it better - they did ;-))

Most Manure fans ant Barthez out. It's Ferguson who insists upon keeping him. I haven't seen the 2 mistakes today but does no-one think there's somehing dodgy going on? Newcastle he let bad goal in. There was that Paulo di canio goal where barthez stood with his hands in the air. There were those mistakes against Deportivo where he ran into his defender and where he came out the box and slid past the ball! Now 2 more today... These are just the ones that ended upas goals. There are loads more that strikers should of put away but missed.

Has he been dared by is mates in Paris to make the manure stink? is he getting paid? Or is he just shit?

-- Anonymous, November 25, 2001

Taggart seems to have had a serious problem with his last lines of defence since Rudolph left. He acquired Bosnich then hardly played him. He paid 4 million was it for Taibi (least said!) and now he's broken all sorts of records to get Barthez in. You have to laugh really!

-- Anonymous, November 25, 2001

...or even really laugh, like Jaap Stam was, until the nandrolene (sp?) 'discovery' - who's to know Harry Potter's not somehow involved with that?

;7)

Oi Lynda....when you talk to United fans please try to talk to the ones that know..or the ones that go...now piss off!

C&P m-u-f-c.co.uk

Call me a disloyal, reactionary cunt if you like, but that 'PERFORMANCE' today, in keeping with many others this season was a fucking disgrace to the shirt. We were run ragged by an average team today, and I mean, run fucking ragged. No fight, no fucking bottle. We have become a team of absolute soft arses who cannot and will not compete. As much as I admire his skills, Veron is a fucking pussy. I cannot remember him making one single tackle since he arrived at Old Trafford. Blanc is finished, and has been for 18 months now. Get rid of the old twat. Not fucking good enough. His legs have gone and the man is a fucking liability. Barthez is having a rough time of it at the moment. Undoubtedly a class act, but his confidence has gone. I'm afraid he simply has to be dropped in favour of Carroll. The simple fact is, he is costing us games, time after time. Overall, I'm afraid Fergie has got it so badly wrong this season it hurts. 4-5-1, as I have said on this site before, is a bag of shite of a formation. It is not the United way, it's bollocks. We will win nothing this season. The players know Fergie is leaving, the club is in limbo, and the players, albeit subconciously, know this and are not giving a hundred percent. Abject submissions against the likes of the Bindippers and Arsenal are not acceptable. Big things need happen and fucking soon.

thescorpion_ni (38 posts) 25-Nov-01, 06:17 PM (GMT) 7. "RE: Fuck, he made great saves during the match...." Now im not one to criticise, but barthez lost us the match today, and blanc is a liability against anyone with a bit of pace. Craig Bellamy, Micheael Owen, Thierry Henry, etc. Blanc at times can play well, he has a good footballing brain, but he lacks the pace, and in cases like today where we sat back and let them come at us, it cost us. Now i was ully expecting the 'Oh but look at the saves he made' argument about barthez, yes he is a good keeper, but making saves is what he is fucking paid to do. Making a few good saves in a game is a job well done. Today Barthez lost us the game its as simple as that. He did it against deportivo and everyone agreed that we could overlook it and give him another chance. Yes the whole team was playing badly today, but it was still 1-1 with 11 minutes left.

Im not saying we should get rid of him, but its time it was accepted that it was his fault that we lost.

..... feel for you, marra.

Oi Lynda...a word..

Several weeks ago I posted on here that Jaap Stam had played his last game for United a full two days prior to the shock announcement. We got the buzz from an incredible source. The very same source tells us that during tests into Stam's knees, traces of a banned substance we detected. Bottom line?....you fuckin' work it out!

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Clarky...what's feckin' annoying is that in recent games I've been to Anfailed...and hihgbury twice and we've been hammered without putting up a fight. Not one single player last night performed. Fergie's shite crap wank piss tactics are ruining Paul Scholes and RVN. RVN is being made to look shit..and that ain't fair on the lad.

LR,

It seems to me - clearly from a distance - that what you are really missing is the top coach you have had in recent years - Kidd and then McLaren. I really believe this is now hurting you. SAF may be a tough disciplinarian and a good man manager, but I doubt he is a good coach.

There has almost certainly been resistance towards bringing in a top coach given SAF's upcoming retirement. This represents a short-term paralysis of management action that may well cost you dearly this season.

In truth it is more important that the Club gets the long-term position sorted by ensuring you hire the right replacement, AND get him in place around Easter next year so that he spend the final weeks of the season watching the team and planning for next season, and in a position to take over from Taggart immediately the season ends.

Much as it hurts you, it is good for the PL to have a more open season, and hopefully a competition that goes to the wire. To be pefectly honest, despite your problems, I'd be very surprised if you weren't involved in it all at the death.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

You tring to make me feel better?...............lol

Fair comment. SAF may not be a top coach....debatable....but he's surely not that thick!! that he can't see what's up?

BTW...this really is what it's all about. EVERY game for us is now important.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Welcome to the club, LR ;-)

I agree that the main cause of your problem is not the players but the manager. SAF is such a stubborn b@st@rd that he will not admit he has made a mistake. I can understand why he wants to go with 5 in m/f in the CL, but not in the EPL. You have some wonderful attacking players but they are not in a position to attack so much. Sure, you have a problem down the left when Giggs isn't available, but leaving RVN isolated up front is wrong. How long before he gets fed up with it? BTW - if you want rid of Veron, we could do a deal. It seems generally accepted you need another CH. Well.................go on, please ;-)

Chin up. You're still better than the Mackems

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Man Utd are always crap in November...they can still win the league from the position they are in (as we know) and may very well do just that. LR, what has happened to your back four generally? I was thinking about this the other day and actually concluded that, with the possible exception of Wes Brown, I'd prefer our back line to yours - which is remarkable really.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Screach...got home at 10pm last night and said....."that's it ...I ain't going again"

lol

part time twot!

Veron?...get lost...he's a pussy but he's our pussy :-)

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Douggie...I appreciate your fondness of young Wes...but at the moment he's tosh. Your back four is superior to ours. Just LOOK at our goals- away!!

In fact...at the moment your team is superior to ours.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Besides which, while we are p....g ourselves at Barthez, anyone remember Hughes passing the ball back to Given against Villa? Given very thoughtfully proceeded to give the ball to Angel... a comedy error that was fortunate not to be punished.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

LR, Wes isn't tosh: he just just hasn't got a great CH next to him to learn from and you are seeing how young he really is. We have had this, in that Dabizas is supposed to be the commanding senior centre half. Take my word for it, Wes is destined for greatness.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Nah I think young Wes is the problem...he's scarily unpredictable....

Feel sorry for Barthez....class keeper who made some awesome saves but his fuck ups just look so HUGE....

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Gav...our whole defence is scared and worried...including FB and this can not be doing oldies like Irwin or youngies!! like Wes any good. Fab did ok last night but made two monumentals. I think that because his kicking is so good that our defenders just give him the ball in any old situation and then turn their backs...when he slips-up it's too late to fix it.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Will he be investigated for match fixing? Grobbalaar (sp?) made a better effort than Barthez in the questioned games.

And Wes Brown has been awful in the few games I've seen him play. He might make 1st team elsewhere, but I don't think he's good enough for a team looking to challenge for the title.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Re the coaching problem, don't you have some sort of players agreement with Oldham?

Their manager is a really good coach and not too good a manager, he might be out of a job by March!

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

I think Taggart should be sacked now or Manure might risk relegation. Perhaps they could call upon Steve Bruce or MacLaren or Brian Kidd or Bryan Robson...? Each a successful product of the ManU school of football coaching...erm...er... ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

As long as that, Gus??

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Fergie's winning sides always had a superbly strong spine with Schmeicel, Bruce/Pallister/Stam/Johnsson, Keane/Ince/Robson and then exceptional attacking players around this. Now the spine players have just gone. Schmeicel has never been replaced, the centre halves aren't special, Keane looks like a small midfield player rather than an enforcer and suddenly the exceptional attacking players haven't got the rock to build on.

Dalglish demolished Keegan's side and each time he sold somebody we justified the sale and the subsequent replacement, then we suddenly realised we were crap and that all the replacements cost more and were worse than what we had had. Four years on we're still suffering.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Oh no....poor lad, Barthez is wanted by tesco's to promote their own brand butter....

Sounds like a spoiled kid to me..

Man Utd will not win the league every year until you die. Either get used to it, or go buy a season ticket for Arsenal. So maybe you wont win anything this year and maybe you will get beat off Newcastle (4- 3!!!) and Arsenal, but that is just normal for most fans whostill turn out to watch their teams no matter how much they are likely to win. Most clubs this year will win nothing. You have just been spoiled by rescent experiences and cant cope with a defeat. I personally cannot wait to see you crumble.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

This was a comment that made me smile:

"Your defence is better than ours"

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Don't be fooled Paul. LR was only looking for a fight. I'm pleased nobody rose to the bait ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Taggart is suffering from hubris. It had to happen sooner or later.

-- Anonymous, November 26, 2001

Nah Scehhhhr, I just meant that using the plan to have the new man in place by about March, he would be available.

-- Anonymous, November 27, 2001

Jim...and I can't wait to rub your nose in it come May. I thought yer post was gonna be sensible and I was gonna agree we have been spoiled...then U threw in the ABU line. Cheers easy!

-- Anonymous, November 27, 2001

"Call me a disloyal, reactionary cunt if you like"

LR, you're a disloyal, reactionary c**t. Feel better now?!

-- Anonymous, November 27, 2001

LR, you will undoubtedly rub our noses in it come May, but Man Utd don't struggle like this too often.

You can't blame us for wanting to make the most of it.

-- Anonymous, November 27, 2001

I agree Paul....but the venom shown towards United's downfall in my opinion shout be at it's highest from fans of MCFC and LFC. No one else. By all means enjoy it.

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

LR, why restrict the fun to only two clubs? We all want to be part of it.

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Venom is probably the wrong word.

I just have a laugh at it, there isn't really any hatred involved, it's just nice to see some cocky fans get their come uppance (not directed at you, but there are a lot of Man Utd fans that are arrogant sods)

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

...and Liverpool shirts are selling like hot cakes in that giant suburb (and source of many of Manure's millions!) of Manchester >>>> Singapore - home of the ultimate glory hunters, they've even removed the majority of the Manure regalia from my 'local' ;7)

-- Anonymous, November 28, 2001

Bud....they bothered me little as United fans and they'll bother me less as mickies.

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

LR, I keep saying this: Liverpool have always had more placca fans than you lot and have NEVER in the past thirty years had that support tested significantly. Then again, I'm biased as I truly loathe Liverpool.

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

LR, sure but they certainly have fed your (Manure's) coffers (paid for some of your 'stars') - Harry Potter would be / has been the first to admit that.
