............one of the Sundays is carrying the story that Toon are interested in El Tel as the next manager. Honest. Des Lino showed it to him on The Premiership, and I wasn't convinced by his denial. Indeed, there was no denial. Is that smoke I can see? I wonder where the fire is.

I saw that too.. And yes Terry did go all embarrassed and denied nothing.

Jim - can you remember which paper?

no, the story took up a full page though. They must of had quite a lot to write about.

Probably just a picture of the fat git ;-)

I know he's not the most popular manager round these parts, but you can't criticise his coaching ability. Well, not unless you're called................hush my gob.

If we did, all we'd need is Graham Failure & god sqauad hod for the full England set.

This is lead story in the Sunday Sun - so it's probably bollox.

They say AS wants El Tel to come in as Director of Football to guide him during his introduction as he believes it is unlikely BR will agree to filling this role.

They reckon Vegetables is disenchanted with what is happening to ITV's Premiership Show, and is missing the day-to-day involvement that he had at Boro last season.

They add the general feeling at SJP is that BR will want to stay on until the end of the 2002-3 season.

Actually, I wouldn't be averse to Vegetables working alongside Shearer - Alan would definitely need a top-class coach - but I don't like this meaningless D-of-F tag. Imo it muddles the matter of who really is "the Boss". In addition, would the D-of-F be epxected to be there, on the training ground, every day, or not? If not, then what is the point in paying serious brass to a top coach who doesn't coach?

It is probably conceived as a way of managing Tel's massive ego, but imo this is a risky strategy. If he wants to come, let him come in as Head Coach. If that doesn't work for him, then go get a top European coach - someone like Alain Perrin of Troyes.

I'm not sure about Venables.

He is a decent coach, but the last few jobs he did weren't at big clubs.

Even as England manager he didn't impress, getting a bit of luck at Euro 96 (apart from the Holland game of course) Playing Shearer up front on his own for two years is unforgivable.

He is almost as old as BR, so it would be nothing more than a short term plan. Shearer would of course take over, but why can't BR be the man who guides AS?

I have to agree, Paul: I can't think of a more over-rated manager.

On this morning's repeat of the Premiership they had edited this exchange out of the programme. Didn't see it last night, mind, I was pissed as a fart and got sent to bed in disgrace %~D

That'll teach ya to stay oot drinkin' wi' the girlies! You shudda been good like me and gone hyem early.

I too noticed they'd cut down the "analysis" in the morning replay. Presumably to allow more air-time for the ads.
