AVI to VCD in nero error (Not enough memory)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am using Nero 5.5.5.1 but whenever I tried burning a AVI file as a VCD, I always get the message "Not Enough Memory". I have enough RAM and space on my computer, so does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks!

-- Mark (markk52@hotmail.com), November 24, 2001

Answers

For a VCD you need at least 650 to 700 meg space on your hard drive. And You DO NOT have enough memory. You need at least 128 ram or higher. The higher your memory and cpu is the faster the conversion!

-- Will (wzoo1@yahoo.com), November 24, 2001.

"Enough RAM" means higher than 256MB, preferably 512MB or better, and preferably PC800 RDRAM (only of course for i850 chipset boards: overkill?, or at least DDR SDRAM). Is this what you have? That's right: you can never have enough memory.

-- Mehmet Tekdemir (turk690@yahoo.com), November 25, 2001.

Wooh, I have the same problem. Please help. I have Nero 5.5.5.1 and 256M ram. 1.5G HD and so on but get the error also when trying to burn a VCD from an AVI. Even a small AVI of 10megs! The diagnostic seems to report incorrect free memory. Is it a bug or or some strange setting to adjust?

Thanks

-- Gary (nottoday@forthejunkmail.com), November 27, 2001.

Nero can convert valid AVIs to MPEG on the fly to write to a VCD under creation that's true but it's just as true that whatever that AVI is, the codec (s/w and possibly h/w) used to create it in the first place should be present and registered with Windows for Nero to access and to be frameserved from. Can you play that AVI properly in Media Player to begin with? Nero is going to manipulate it. Are its attributes properly set: is it archive (not read only)??

-- Mehmet Tekdemir (turk690@yahoo.com), November 29, 2001.

Yes the AVI can be played and so can the converted MPEG. Actually, everthing works except for the buring (out of mem error).

As you say could be to do with codec issues.

Yesterday I found the problem solution. I think it is a bug but do not know is the reason. I was using the wizard for VCD. Basically dont! Use TMPEG to do the conversion, drop the file in and it works!

-- Gary (blahblah@blah.com), November 29, 2001.

Check your settings in nero and insure that the buffer size is large enough. Then insure that you have no apps running in background that are not needed. If your OS is Win2k pro, that in it self will use about 64 megs of ram just to run. So that leaves you with only 64 megs for apps that are running and nero so look into that as well.

And to all of you judging out there, I bet you dont know @#@# about anything so think you know it all. Your all a perfect example about how a "little" knowledge about something is dangerous. So mark, keep trying and see what happens. If you never fail you never learn. Screw everone else that tells you other wise. Keep on keeping on.........

-- Jonathan (blunt@shaw.ca), January 02, 2002.

thanks jonathan. that's the fix..and to all ya'll who were quick to talk smack, 10 bucks says your a couple of little punks who need their heads smacked a few times... using 128M RAM , 2Gig HD, 400M CPU & W98 here and the AVIs convert nicely to VCD now...geez..

-- dont matter (whatever@wat.com), January 04, 2002.

Grr. I am having similar problems to the other people. Only I am trying to burn an avi file which is 240 mb, and in Nero, its supposed to work right off teh bat. but it doesnt. It says i dont have enough memory. B S ! I have 640 mb of ram and a 500 mhz p3 processor with more than 4G left on my HDD. What is goin on??

-- Andy Edwards (lith5@home.com), January 15, 2002.

Just use winoncd my m8 uses it to convert avi to vcd on the fly and it works perfect for him.

ftp://ftp5.nero.com/NeroVCD.zip

This file stopped all of my problems. It is a replace .dll file, like a patch. It works.

Thanks

-- Rob (wright54@cogeco.ca), January 30, 2002.

The file in the above message worked for me too.

I'm running win98, 512mb ram, 850 processor with 26gig of hd left, I tryed that little file to replace the dll file in the nero folder and I still get the Not enough memory fault. Anyone else help please?

-- Chris (chunphi@yahoo.com), April 01, 2002.

Well, I sure hope you are right about the patch, I will try that. I have a atholon thunderbird 950, over 700mb ram, 10+ gig of free storage. Uncompressed AVI, captured on ATI VE wonder card. Converting to mpeg1 is not the problem. It just takes to long. The AVI has better resolution and color bits is why I capture in that format. Everyone knows that when you compress any (type)file you lose quality so you need to start at the best captured format that you can. To you that encourage the rest of us "hats off to you" for you that don't ask yourself "why am I reading these messeges if I know it all".

-- Larry Watkins (lawatkins2002@yahoo.com), April 21, 2002.

Just thought I would write back and thank Jonathon on the patch. The only thing I didn't do was to over write the original VMPEGEnc.dll file, I just renamed it to originaVMPEGEnc.dll. You never know when you may need the original dll file, they are cranky files and it doesn't hurt to keep them. I down loaded the file while I was still on this messege board, installed it, ran nero and made a VCD and checked the VCD out and it works great. The only thing was that it copyed it to hard drive first. That might be a configuration setup I have in nero. Mehmet Tekdemir(thanks for the hint) posted that nero can do it on the fly, so I have to try an figure that out (almost sure its config problem). Syn006 Thanks for the encouragemet and keep it up. for those that missed the link.... ftp://ftp5.nero.com/neroVCD.zip Credit to Jonathon for the link. Larry (lawatkins2002@yahoo.com)

I have Nero 5. something or other. I have tried burning a vcd to disc but cannot seem to do it. Howeevr, I am fairly computer illiterate and havlf the talk on her has me confused, (blush). But here's what is happening. It seems to work, goes to the burn screen and starts to encode file ( takes about 2 hours). Then it just stopsw and says it is done. Have used this to burn audio cds and worked fine then. I am trying to burn an avi file. Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi everyone, I have a slightly different problem with burning VCD's in Nero. When I try to burn an avi-file as a VCD, I'm able to drag & drop the file but the minute I click "Write CD", the program crushes without any indication of what is wrong and the program ends itself. I've tried several avi-files, it's always the same. In fact, once I've dropped the file into the window, every icon I click leads to the same result... the program ends... anyone out there who knows what to do with this?

Thanks a lot in advance Alex

-- Alex (alexandra2804@yahoo.com), September 04, 2002.

I TOO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS MENTIONED NUMBER OF TIMES HERE. ALTHOUGH I NEVER GOT ANY ERROR MSG THE ENCODING NEVER SEEMED TO BEGIN. BUT AFTER REPLACING THE DLL FILE IT WORKED PERFECTLY !!

THIS PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES UPTO THE VERSION 5.5.8.2

JUST FOR FURTHER INFORMATION THE DLL FILE THAT YOU GET FORM THE LINK IS 372KB IN SIZE WHILE THE ONE THAT COMES WITH VER 5.5.8.2 IS 412KB.

THANKS TO JHON FOR THE SOLUTION AND THE LINK.

I've updated my Nero to 5.5.9.17 and got exactly the same problem: 'When I try to burn an avi-file as a VCD, I'm able to drag & drop the file but the minute I click "Write CD", the program crushes without any indication of what is wrong and the program ends itself.' (c)Alex that's funny cause I never got that before the last update. Ufortunately I cannot find this file neroVCD.zip anymore... Any help is apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try this:

http://nctuccca.nctu.edu.tw/ftp/Windows/Tools/File/Nero/NeroVCD.zip

-- Patrick (dowle@m-net.arbornet.com), November 14, 2002.

Nop, ufortunatelly didn't solve the problem. Nero doesn't crush but VCD isn't created properly and invalid... Thanks anyway.

-- Serge (sergic@hotmail.com), November 16, 2002.

When making VCD's with Nero. It will always say "not enough memory" after Re-encoding an MPG file. And when i try to add a menu with thumbnails. After burning the VCD it wont play. Anyone knows the problem?

-- omega one (dabbous2000@cs.com), December 31, 2002.

If you tried the patch and it still does not work. Try this.

Go into regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning ROM\Recorder\WriteBufferSize

Now set the Basis should be set to hexadecimal (if this has not already been done). Now enter the value A00000 . If it still leads to problems, then please enter the value 300000 . You do not need to restart the computer.

There is also an upper & lower buffer. Also set it with the value A00000 or 300000.

im using nero 5.5.9.14 and have been burning avi to vcd with out any major problems i use an decompression tool for the audio or sometimes use virtualdub for any really corrupted files, takes about 2 hours ish to burn, the only really major problem i have had is some of the vcd i have done the sound is out of sync but i think virtualdub should sort that and also sometimes the frame rate might be a bit slow and shows on the tv this could be my pc been meaning to upgrade for ages running a p3 at 500mhz 30gb of space left and 320mem,if any one knows a bit more about the sound side i would like to know more, also will trade any software if it helps, sorry i dont know anything about not enough memory never had that problem to all the flamers(whatever!)cheers richard.

-- richard (rdg30uk@yahoo.com), February 06, 2003.

I'm running nero express and it just shuts down after i select the mpg to add to the CDR. There are no error messages or anything. I tried the regedit and replacing the .dll file. Nothing seems to work. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

-- j (morespace116@yahoo.com), February 22, 2003.

The patch no longer resides at ftp5.nero.com. If anyone knows where it went, that would be great.

Hi,

I am facing a typical problem while using Nero 5.5.5.3. I am trying to burn a couple of CDs with data upto 640 MB each on a Sony CD-R (700MB). I am using an external CD Writer from "Acer" with the speed 12x8x32x. This is connected through an external USB port to a machine with config Intel Pentium IV, 1MHz, 256 RAM, 20 GB hard disk (C Drive: 4GB)

CD Writing fails in the middle with error as "Unspecified error". I have given the complete log below. If anyone could help me solve the issue, it would be great. I have burnt a number of data CD's before with the same writer with the success rate only 50% (50% of the time it fails with similar error).

Thanks, SRINI

yeah, i have help, and yet more questions, lol

the help is that the patch resides at same address given, but with a 6 after ftp, not a 5 or 4 like the old links are, anyways, my prob is a lot like everyone else's. i goto burn a vcd from an avi file. it encodes just fine, but when it goes to burn it says that the burning process failed at even 1x. heres my log file:
