Our Transfer policy

Does anyone really think we'll sign anyone of note before the end of the season? It seems to me that we tend to do our business in the off-season and sit with a pat hand during it. While rumours (and hype) are always going to abound, the fact is simple....

Who have we signed in mid-season that has come in and been of any significant note since YBR's been our manager.

Robert - Bellamy (strictly a midfield player)

They weren't mid-season KB. The trouble with trying to sign somebody at this time in the season is (a) there tends to be fewer available (b) they don't have the pre-season to adjust. However, with the Spanish (and others?) transfer window opening soon, maybe more Johnny Foreigners will become available.

'Johnny Foreigners' - that's what I'm worried about!

We NEED new players, now that Cort is out for rest of season. As I said below, we need players to come in and freshen up what will be a tired squad by January and we need a new midfield player full stop.

Earlier in the week I said I thought we'd sign someone before Xmas. Stupid old me! of course it's only 5 weeks to Xmas and it doesn't look likely. However we don't, then it will be more treading of water, especially if we get more injuries.

God if this season turns out like last, I'm jumping in the Tyne.

The Cort situation will not affect Bobby's decision making. He will not buy another striker.

The midfield - well who bloody knows. Contrary to some opinions on here, I think Bassedas will never cut i in the Premiership. I hope I am wrong, but IMHO any run in the side with him will coincide with a rapid decline in our fortunes and a subsequent slide down the table.

Not happy going into December and 8 games reliant on Lee/Speed/Acuna- the result of which could mean a 13th place finish again.

It seems clear though that there will be no strengthening in this area in the near future and so our usual pontificating in the market will catch us out yet again.

Agree with most of what you're saying Pete, midfield is the priority. Lee can be brilliant or downright awful, about 1 in 3 is brilliant - but you can't expect any more from a 35 year old.

Speed can play well on occasions, and Acuna is useful to have for when Leeds are the opposition.

A class centre midfielder would make a hell of a difference. It would certainly push us above teams like Spurs and Villa and possibly even Chelsea. However, I don't expect us to make any sort of brilliant signing. If we get a Spaniard, it will be at the earliest March before he would become settled, simply because the ones we've been linked with have never played in the PL. I may be wrong, but it normally takes a few months for them to adjust in the fastest pace area of the pitch.

so figuring that YKD should be back sometime prior to the holiday grind I gather we shouldn't expect ta see any new faces at SJP until after the World Cup is over then....
