Bugger! I think he looked good but I can't remember, it was so long ago.

Carl Cort's going to see Dr Steadman in America, that's when Steadman can fit him in that is. The top Englishman Dr Dandy is not making good enough progess with Cort. I'd forgotten that this latest set back was caused by a terrible crunching tackle by Marcelino.

I have just seen the news that he will be out for either 4 months or til end of season. depends on which paper you read but basically amounts to the same thing.

I am so bloody sickened by this. BR wanted 4 strikers this season but in effect we are now short in this area. Cort should NEVER have played in that stupid 'friendly' against Exeter in the first place. THEN Marcelino who is a disgrace to the shirt puts him out of the game in a flaming practice match!!!!!!!! Soooooo annoying.

Well I doubt we'll see him again this season. So the chance of options up front, a change of personnel to freshen things up, competition for places............down the pan.

It may open up an opportunity for young Chopra or McMenamin towards the end of the season. Shola will get more games - especially when Bellamy and/or Shearer's suspended. Of course, YBR might simply elect to play LKD up front.

I suppose so. But it's just so galling. He was never injured at Wimbledon and while we've not seen enough of him to know his full worth, he's a different option up front. Mind you, I saw Shola play for the U21s and he looked great. So as I've said before 'cometh the hour cometh the man/boy' or somthing like that!

Cort (or anyone) playing in friendlies or getting injured on the training ground doesn't bug me, it's just in the category of sh*t happens. What really irks me is that it's taken this long to get him to a specialist. How long did Shearer sit out before going to a specialist? Dyer? I have a feeling medical care at NUFC is much the same as anything else, do as little as possible and hope it's enough to get a player out on the pitch....where he breaks down again, etc etc ad nauseaum. :-(

Not saying told you so after the event, but this latest news comes as no suprise

Just last week on the Fulham match thread I said that I was not holding my breath regarding Carl Cort, and even without this latest setback, I was not banking on him making any significant contribution for a while.

The lack of news regarding his comeback and progression was deafening and the reasons are now apparent.

More worrying is the long term prognosis and the effect all these injuries will have on Carl. His lack of injuries previous to joining NUFC mean nowt as since his arrival he has suffered a damaged hamstring, broke down on his return and missed the next six months. Recovery was then halted by ankle ligament damage and in a specially arranged freindly, the lad manged to severely rupture his knee, which initially was to keep him out for a month.

IMHO we will not see Carl Cort in a b&w shirt this season.

I sincereley wish the lad well and hope he makes a speedy return to full fitness However, like Michael Bridges, I just wonder to what extent either will ever fully recover

I think Carl Court comig back would have been a bonus and he would give Bobby Robson a few tough decisions to make. As a lot of people have put it, A good situation to be in. But i think the return of Carl is by no means a necessity this year. Bellamy, Shearer, Dyer, Ameobi, Lomana, Robert, Speed, Solano are all very capible of scoring goals.

If we had a team like Sunderland where the midfield don't contribute much to the scoring then this would have been a disaster. But goals come from just about our whole team and i think we are "sorted" offensively. If anything we should strengthen our defensive play. If we do buy a midfielder this year we would be best to buy someone hard tackling with a good first touch and the ability to recieve the ball and play it straight away.

Ciara, according to other reports, Cort has been seen by "the best in Britain". However, they now want a 2nd opinion from "the best in the world". No problem with that. Let's hope CC can make a full recovery with or without the aid of Dr Steadman's knife.

Absolutely Screacher

It seems Cort has suffered with the same virus as the 'London curse' and my negativity was not a criticism - just the almost inevitability syndrom that most of us Toon Army suffer from.

Here is the optimism -

Cort to return in january after fears of a season long lay off wre dispelled by steadman

In Keegans words - I would just love it

the lad needs a tad of luck

The thing with Cort is not as worrying as Ferguson was in his time here.

Cort has been very unlucky with two very bad injuries - not niggling hamstring pains and the like. He has had two big ones, no little injuries, so it's not as if he is injury prone. (Although it's a little hard to judge after 15 games. - Bellamy has played more already that Cort and he's only been here a few months)
