. . . if I have to drag you to the theater and buy your ticket.

Has anybody recently -- or ever -- seen a movie that made them run out and tell 300 of their friends to go see said movie? Did you just say, "Go see this!" and drop it, or did you turn into a movie-obsessed freak? At the extreme end, ever found a movie that made you wish you were taking film theory just so you could argue about it?

I ask because I just spent half of my latest notify ruminating about Battle Royale, which isn't even available in the US -- not in the theaters, not as a Region 0 or 1 DVD. And yet I keep wanting to say, "You MUST see this movie!" even though I know it makes me look all Privileged McSubtitlelitist.

(Subtitlelitist, sub-ty-tu-leet-ist, n. A film snob who won't even consider seeing anything dubbed.)

So please tell me I'm not the only one who's gone apeshit over a particular movie. Or two (Attack the Gas Station, much?) . . .

I went to see Rushmore while in the U.S. and when i came home to Dublin my poor friends had to endure months of me raving about it until it opened on this side of the Atlantic.

A few months ago, I was urging people to go and see Amelie, but at least it had actually been released in the country...

Anna is my secret movie twin, apparently, because Rushmore and Amelie are my two big "you MUST see this movie!" movies. I also think everyone should see Lone Star. Battle Royale is out up here in Toronto, WG, and I'd be willing to see it, if you could tell me more about it. So please gush all you like, b/c I, uh, didn't pay very close attention to the notify yesterday.

Ditto on Lone Star.

Sophie, remind me and I will send you a very long and detailed email, because as much as I love the movie, it is not for everyone.
