Dumb lens hood question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I will have a 35mm/2 summicron soon that needs a hood. It's a Canadian made 4th generation (#11310), does any know if the current(and easily available) Leica replacement hood #12526 will fit this? I can't imagine they'd be any difference between it and the 12524, but then again...Thanks and sorry for such a dull Q.

Dave: The lens shade #12524 will fit the 35mm Summicron since it is a 39mm filter size. I have a 35mm Summaron and I use the #12524 on it and on my 50mm Summicron lens. You are correct, they are readily available. I ordered mine with cap from Leica through a camera store here in Philadelphia. Good luck and enjoy your new lens. Happy Thanksgiving.

Taken from the SUMMICRON-M f/2/35 mm ASPH PDF-file:

"The new lens hood can also be used with the foregoing model SUMMICRON-M f/2/35 mm (order number 11310 or 11311). It can be reordered as a replacement (order number 12526) and comes with the new protective cover."

Thanks, off to B&H...

Dave,

I have a mint vented hood, #12585H that should work on a 35 OR 50 'Cron. I used to use it on a 50 DR and it worked pretty well. It should work on your lens....let me know if you are interested.

What a luxury to have B&H or Adorama close at hand. Here on the south far side of the Pacific, (but not in Japan) dealers do not stock a full range of items and the pricing is a marvel to behold in many cases, or at least if you want a warranttee of any value.

Shipping and associated cost often make mail order ineffective. Oh well, at least I don't have to shovel snow here, but woe betide me if the air con breaks down: not just for me, but for mould and fungus on lenses. A lot of money is eaten up in dehumidifiers.

A current Leica lens hood I had was cheap plastic: BOOOO--- PPPTHFFTT for $$30 US!?!?! Those are not Leica code letters by the way!

Keep smiling

The only difference between the 12524 and the 12526 is in the nubs at the front of the hood. The 12526 comes with a hood cap and its nubs are slightly more pronounced and have sharper edges to grip the hood cap. Other than that the two hoods are identical.
